Hello friends. What can I do to my harp and its reeds to allow for a quicker attack (i.e. decreasing that slight delay between the initiation of breath and beginning of sound). I like when my harp has a bit of a pop to it. I sometimes use a bit of tongue technique to achieve this, but I notice that some of my harps' reeds really pop when I initiate my breath with a bit of abrupt force, and some do not. Thanks, Easy

Check out videos by Choppajoe Gregg Jones or someone. You have to lower your reeds a little bit. Best to watch someone doing it first though. ---------- Reasonably priced Reed Replacement and tech support on Hand Made Series Hohner Diatonic Harmonicas.

BUT, if the reed is already gapped low, you may actually need to RAISE THE GAP since a reed that is gapped too tight will stall or hesitate under a strong breath attack.

Look up videos on gapping. Like hvyj said, it can go too far either way.
A more airtight harp will also respond with less force, so the normal tricks may help- better combs, flat sanding the bottom of the reed plate, etc.
There are a lot of good videos out there, or you can get a custom.
Generally speaking, higher harps will respond a little quicker because the reeds weigh less, but that only really helps if you go out of your way to choose songs to take advantage of.
