When Dick Cavett asked Hendrix what he thought of fans who said that he (jimi) was the world's greatest guitarist, Hendrix replied that he was the best guitarist sitting in his chair. ---------- Ted Burke tburke4@san.rr.com
this is a little askew of the topic, related to Mr. Burke's post, but I love it anyways...
When Hendrix was asked by Mike Douglas what it was like to be the world's best guitarist, he answered "I don't know. You'll have to ask Rory Gallagher".
(I love Rory, especially after watching that documentary on his life on netflix). ---------- The Iceman

Nice jam here of Gallagher and Jack Bruce playing "Politician". Gallagher doesn't play the signature riff--my guess is that he didn't know it at that moment--but his guitar work is peerless blues rock soloing. Beautiful , crunchy tone, expressive bends and accents. ---------- Ted Burke tburke4@san.rr.com
Hi bikerpvc: Please take a look at the rules for this forum, which you can access from a link in the paragraph at the top of the forum homepage. No hard feelings. We just try hard to keep the peace around here.
He's not British. He lives in a small shack on 10 acres of hardpan right outside Slickticket, Texas. He's pretty good on the harmonica, but can't sing, dance or play spoons. He can whistle Glow Little Glow Worm while beating two sticks together in time and that along with being pretty good on the harmonica is the extent of his talent. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. I took the original post and topic as a lampooning of the recently started am I a snob thread. I thought it was funny. Lord knows this forum can use a little comic relief now and then. I figured the responses, if any, would be comically insulting rejoinders. Instead, in went in a weirdly serious direction. Go figure.

I think I'm really good on the kazoo, spoons (bending them w/ my mind), juggling, sock puppets, magic cards, dice, monopoly, the unicycle, spinning plates on sticks, spinning tops, the yoyo, eating lotsa hot dogs stupid fast, etc. I think it's high time I break into show biz. ---------- Reasonably priced Reed Replacement and tech support on Hand Made Series Hohner Diatonic Harmonicas.

My outlook on this topic is closely related to one I recently had with my harmonica teacher (he's actually very well versed in a plethora of musical instruments, since he's a retired high school music teacher). We were discussing how a person thinks they sound great playing their harmonica (or any other instrument for that matter), until they get either a tape recorder, or a downloadable app (I did that for my Android, & it was FREE). People recording themselves then playing the music back, 9 times out of 10, is akin to a sudden jolt of electricity taking the person off guard. They have their pride cut at the knees. And better yet, just playing a scale to the bpm with a metronome & recorded then played back can sometimes be enough for a person to lose their appetite when dinner is ready. And yes, what I posted, I also follow. If I'm sounding cynical, I'm not targeting any one individual. Just speaking from my past years as a bass guitar player (started back in 1983) & transferring past experience to this topic. Regardless, harp on, all!
