I have a gig coming up in a few weeks with a lot of sax heavy repertoire. I really want to nail Pick Up the Pieces. I think I'm going to have to dust off my brain and just read the sheet music and commit to memory.

I've found a few harmonica versions floating around YouTube where people are using chromatic. I'll be planning to play on diatonic. Any suggestions?

Probably do it in 3rd position so you have more minor notes available. Great song.

I was able to work through it using this saxophone tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaaTOb_6BD4

Going to play it on a Bb in 2nd position.

Not one I plan to do but I just gave it a little try with a Bb, an Eb, and a low Eb. Good potential with all 3!

That's great, Ridge. I've always loved this song. I could see the Blues Doctors playing this. Please post a video of you playing it on harp, with or w/o the band, once you get it down. I'll watch it with great interest.

Here's Randy Singer playing a solo on the song, diatonically. Whew!

I found that same video of Randy originally. Not sure what kind of harmonica it is, but it definitely has a slide.

If there is footage from last night, I won't post it. It was definitely a train wreck. I wasn't ready to perform it, but I'm going to keep working on it.

I will try to shoot something soon with a break down of the different parts at a slow speed as it's all I'm capable of at the moment.

Randy plays a regular diatonic harp on the solo, then switches around the 1:05 point to a chromatic harp for the head.
