Anybody aware of combo amp that have the Masco sound.

I play in the bassman re on stage 99%

I have a PA at home but it's more of a decoration and getting it out of the house to a gig would be stupid.

I have the usuall zoo for rehearsal or small gig but ill bring the bassman anyways because I don't really dig the sound of the little model 2

I'd like a compo that have similar sound signature of the masco.

I would prefer something brand new and not too expensive but a vintage that is under 1000$ could do too.

Somebody told me to try a commando but that look like a big and rare amp.

I'd give a call to Skip Simmons - http://www.skipsimmonsamps.com/. His familiarity not just with Mascos, but the circuitry & schematics of similar tube amps might give you facts that send you in the right direction (so this thread doesn't just become a popularity poll of everybody's favorite small amp.) Skip knows what's out there and what will best emulate the Masco sound.

I had a Skip Simmons MA17, it was an awesome amp, a bit on the dark side of tone, but found it didn't "cut" thru the mix on the bandstand like my GA45 or Bassman. I sold it to someone who really wanted it.

But I couldn't live without a similar "lunchbox" amp. I currently own a Knight amp, check it out here, it's for sale.

Beautiful pictures... Oh, and here's Kim Wilson playing it. Might make a for a good web series. Kim Wilson breaks into people's homes to play their old amplifiers.

Yes gents that does sound a bit daft, lol!
I also own a Bogan HE10 amp which is my keeper.
The amp was sold to me by Jon Atkinson. He plays with Kim and he does videos like this for him from time to time.
The Knight is all original, I added a 3 prong plug and removed the death cap. It also can power 2x10 or a 12 inch speaker.

I also love my Bogen - in my case CHB10 A. It sounds like a monster! I got it from Dave at theharpmicshop.com in Salem,OR (he shipped it to me). I was looking for a Masco when I contacted him, and he turned me on to the Bogen which he likes better. Dave is a great guy, has all sorts of stuff - mics, parts, amps, etc. - and really knows his craft. He is also a good harp player so he knows what harp guys are after. One of my friends is Jeff Mason who has been a pro (harp and trombone) since the 70s, and he thinks it as good sounding an amp as he has ever heard.

Skip Simmons recently did a knight for me- basically gave it the Masco circuit- and he liked the transformers better. Sounds amazing. Give him a call regardless- he's a savant with this stuff and is more than happy to talk amps and share his knowledge :)
