I just received 6 sets of Suzuki Manji reed plates that I ordered on ebay from Japan. 14.99. Very nice and came with new screws....I am impressed. I just wanted spares. Just blowing through the plates had a nice resonance.

I ordered a set of those too a while back. I haven't tried them out yet. I hope they're not knockoffs!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..............

I usually keep an eye on eBay and I did not see the $14.99 Manji reed plates. That is considerably less than Dealer Cost here in the US. I have no idea if they are the Real McCoy or knockoffs so I am not trying to create doubt. I will just say that that's a hell of a deal. I hope it works out for you.

I,ve bought a couple of sets from this seller....They play great and i,m pretty certain they,re not knock offs.I,m in uk and even with postage they still work out cheaper than a standard set of reedplates (bluesmaster, harpmaster etc). So i,ve started replacing most of my suzukis with manji reedplates.

In my opinion Manjis are the finest harp Suzuki makes. Well, I do have one of their Chros but as far as their diatonic line it's great! I can own them because I don't break reeds....anymore. :-) The machine to fix them is super, super,
expensive. Best to stock up on reed plates Tom mentions if you kill reeds.

IDK, when you add the shipping, it isn't much cheaper than Ron's.

And with Ron's,you are sure they are real, and under a gnarly warranty.

Grrrrr…

I finally got around to putting these replacement reedplates on my one and only Manji, only to find out that there are no threads cut in the draw plate holes to receive the screws. I think I might have the appropriate tap for cutting threads in, but… I mean… really? This is getting kinda ridiculous. When I bought this harp it arrived quite out of tune. This gave me a great introductory lesson in harmonica tuning, but I never really got it playing quite as nice as I thought it should. I thought that I might have screwed things up in the tuning process, which is why I jumped on what I thought was a great deal on these replacement reedplates… and the saga continues.

Man. I really really want to like Manjis, but this initial experience has been making that very difficult.

Suzuki harmonicas have a one year warranty. Call 800-854-1594.
Not if you buy direct from Japan, tho . . .
So you can save a bunch of money but they are grey market--

TBird - FWIW, if you are concerned that the lack of threads on the draw plate are an indication that these are not the genuine article, I have buought 100's of Manji reed plates from Suzuki USA and none of the draw plates are threaded. All you need is a M2 tap. Email me you address if you like and I will be happy to send you one.

Also, with regard to tuning. I've noticed someting very interesting lately with the Manji reed plates. I have posted this information before but I'll repeat it to get everyone on the same page. Personally, I don't like the Suzuki Compromise Tuning. It is very close to ET with the 2,5 & 8 Blow and the 3 & 7 draw reeds tuned 5 cents flat. Everythings else is at 0. I have been tuning Manji reed plates to Modern Compromise Temperament @443, which is the current tuning for the Marine Band, and I like it much better. Oddly enough, I have noticed that the Manji plates I have tuned recently (about 15 sets in the last two weeks) were actually pretty close to Modern Compromise Temperament from the factory. I wonder if this is a coincidence or has Suzuki changed their default tuning? Hmmmmm..... stay tuned.

Have you noticed this Gnarly?

Thanks Gnarly and florida-trader.

"I have buought 100's of Manji reed plates from Suzuki USA and none of the draw plates are threaded."

That's great to hear! I've got an M2 tap I'll dig out. I'm looking forward to getting it together and finding out what the tuning is like on these new plates. I'm also a little nervous...

For those that don't feel like tuning, the fabulous just plates are fantastic in a manji!

And usually, they are self tapping screws . I have never had to tap a manji.

I have never had to tap the plates, as Shakey points out, the screws are self tapping.
And I haven't noticed anything different with regard to stock tuning.

Cool. I kinda wondered about the self tapping thing, but didn't want to just ram them in there and mess something up.

I do it every day, grab an electric screwdriver and run em in. Pull it apart and file off the little volcanoes.
