not sure if i should post this on the 15 inch speaker thread or
the mid size amp thread.

someone walked in the door today with this... i can not find any info on
the internet re: this amp. i believe it is a 1970

i know its not a good idea to turn this thing on as it has been sitting for an extended
period of time, but i could not resist.

holy shit, it sounds better than my bassman! it is loud and has great tone.
sounds great with both guitar and harp.

i do not need another amp, i am trying to get rid of a few i have now. lol
if i take it in for service i will have to keep her

That looks killer. I can bet it's got tubes. And better than the bassman? I believe it. Ampeg is to the bass guitar world as Marshall is to the electric guitar world.

It looks like the covering is the earlier Ampeg random flair so it is 1960 era. Possibly, 2 6V6 with 6NS7 or 6LS7 preamp tubes with 5Y3 rectifier. What's the model designation on the faceplate? By 1970 the exterior design had changed completely.

Hey barley, not sure what to do, I never sell anything, at the same time I do not need another amp.

I dropped the amp off to have the caps replaced, and also the 2 prong.
I know that you can do that. However I would like to put her thru the paces then decide
If I should keep her. This amp is rareā€¦. it is hard to find any info on it. I believe it is a M15

It has mullard EL 37 power tubes a 5 u4 rectifier that I want to borrow to put in my bassman.
Pretty damn cool amp.

EL37 Mullards are beam power tubes that can sub for 6L6GC. HiFi guys will pay a fortune for strong ones. You have to be careful because they won't take excesssive screen voltage like other 6L6 types. I love all 6L6 amps - both hifi and instrument amps. I'll bet this Ampeg kicks ass.

I have an 65 Ampeg Rocket that I use for gigs. Bought it from "Delta music" in Clarksdale Miss.......it was not expensive. Brought it home, had the caps replaced, and a grounded plug. Also subbed the 12ax7 with AU7's. It kicks ass. It's only 18 watts but if I need to I just mic it.

I bought a portaflex around 1970 that I got from a pawn shop for $100. I still weep over letting this thing go. It was ASTOUNDING for harp. All I'm gonna say.
