I found this record player at an antique store for $100. Would it make a good harp amp project for someone who can't afford a Bassman?

Says it's 58 watts. Tubes are ez81, 6bq5, 12ax7a, 6bq5. Was thinking of leaving it intact, but having my amp tech put a new cord on it, service it and maybe give me a speaker out so I could drive a cabinet if I wanted. I think it would be cool if I could keep it as a combo record player / harp amp. I'd like something I could use along with my Kalamazoo 1 or take to local blues jam if I need more power.

That amp is probably a push-pull amp that puts out about 15 watts, nowhere near a bassman. Might be turned into a nice 10" or 2x10" combo.

The 58 W figure is power consumed with both speakers at full volume, and the turntable motor running. The efficiency is nowhere near 100%, so a chunk of that 58 W is wasted as heat.
Have your tech put a cord on it and test it, see how you like the sound. Just don't expect it to blow away your Kalamazoo. Like you said, keep it as a record player/ harp amp combo. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the great feedback. I thought the wattage seemed really high. That makes more sense. Sounds like it wouldn't really be a good fit for a medium-large jam amp, but might make a fun project nonetheless. It looks like it may have 6 speakers. 6" 4" and 2" in pairs.

Very cool looking. I admit that the best part of it all is the fact that it was made in America. For my harps amp, I use a Peavey Microbass 15 watt amp I bought used at my local Guitar Center for about $40.00 + tax. I don't see too much a problem with amps getting warm, provided the amp has good ventilation so nothing burns out. And just a side note. I read an article pertaining to amps featuring Gene Simmons of KISS. He stated that the real way to measure amps isn't so much the watts, but rather the RMS output.
