Just got this harp and have yet to really try it out. We do a few songs in the duo where it will fit. To this point I have had a Big River low D for a few years and it's gotten tired. This Manji will fit in with the others I have in my case.

Right away I noticed one cool thing: the lower cover plate is deeper to accommodate reed swing on the lower notes! First time I've seen a stock harp with this feature.

I have high expectations if this harp is as good as the other Manjis I have depended on for years now. Needless to say I am a big fan.

Let us know how it plays. I'm looking into getting a low tuned harp. It would be my first. I haven't decided on what key.... any suggestions?

The low tuned Manjis are nice harps as are the low tuned Hohner Rockets. I have both in stock if you are interested. They are not listed on my website just yet. I've been meaning to make a video about them but haven't gotten to it yet.

I like a low D as well as low F. These two are in my case and they see service quite a bit. It's just one more thing one can do to vary the sound over a set or 3. I generally use them amped to get the most out of their lower tones.
I had the low D out the other night jamming with Jolene on a couple of songs, 3rd position in E. The bigger lower cover allowed better performance on the low end of the harp with no rattle against a stock cover. The low reeds are longer and swing further.

This makes me wonder if the newer Manji's in low F have the modded cover since my current low F does not have this. I've had it for a few years now.

I would definitely recommend a modded cover low harp whatever flavor you decide on. It's nice not to have that rattle!

jbone - The low F Manji is now a member of the low tuned Manjis and as such comes with the oversized bottom cover. That was not the case in the past. It used to come with the standard covers, which were fine. I have built a lot of low F Manjis and never had an issue with reed rattle. But now that Suzuki has introduced the other low keys, they made the low F a part of that line, and, of course, the price has gone up (needlessly). I buy reed plates and covers from Suzuki as components since I do not use their combs so the increased cost is not too much to me. And If I was building a low F Manji, I would still use the traditional covers. But that's just me.

Tom, as long as I keep my air flow responsible I don't notice any problems with the low F.
