That was a great jam, the Saturday night last blues jam of my first SPAH in 2008. I took my turn at 3:13. That was the first harmonica event/workshop I had ever attended. I have learned a lot and improved a lot since then. Jay played fairly traditionally on that song and didn't use extreme position playing to show off his considerable talent in overbending.
At that 2008 SPAH Chris Michalek did a Filisko Gang afternoon workshop on overblows that I attended, as I was struggling to get past playing squeals on the 6OB. I sat by Jay and played my first recognizable overblow. Jay was 14 and could already play overbends fluently and as I told him, he was "scary good" at playing harp. There was a group of young guns that were outstanding in their technique.
Jay showed up in video with LD Miller, Brendan Power, and Christelle at a later SPAH (California?) that I didn't attend in the "ultimate blues jam" video, posted on MBH recently. I think I saw some other videos of him performing publicly, but not recently. Nothing I can find with Google shows that he is actively performing at this time, and the latest YouTube video is 5 years old.
I would be interested in learning if he still plays in public and seeing more video. He would be around 22 years old now. Maybe he put his efforts into college? ----------
