I've been experimenting with a Zoom G3X for a month or so and have to say it is a real feedback factory compared with my Digitec Rp255. The Rp255 created several decent sounds, and somehow getting the balance between getting good gain breakup, delay and reverb without powering into the Feedback zone seemed simple. The Zoom is an awesome machine, but dialing out feedback when using any gain, delay or reverb is really challenging. So my question is: has anybody developed a "best method" to address this? Patch level and mic volume are easy, but what about lowering the level on various effects? I've tried, for example, a distortion effect with gain on 50% but the effect level on 10% to get a nice fuzz effect. But is that the preferred way to get that sound? Is there a best way to get the feedback under control?

Richard Hunter has done a lot of work on patches for modelers. Here is a link to his patches. (I believe that his website also has postings about the Zoom G3X.

Thanks for your response, Dougharps. I have looked at Richard Hunter's Harp patches and recommendations, but I like tinkering and learning the equipment myself. I think I have my solution. It results in having the patch levels range anywhere from below 50 to over 100, but I can keep my mike at the same setting and move between them with approximately the same volume output at the external amp, and still retain the character of the effects. Basically just set the mike level and tweak everything (gate, gain, EQ and delay based effects) to work at that level even if it puts the patch really low. This works, but I was wondering if there was a preferred approach.

Chris, I haven't forgotten you, I promise.! I will try to get my g3 out and download some of my patches from it. Honestly, I haven't even unpacked it yet. Haven't had a lot of free time lately, as I mentioned before, but I will try to do this as soon as possible...

I use one of the devices, with an Audix Fireball V mic. I had some feedback issues to begin with, but now have it sorted. Richard Hunter's patches are worth checking out, for minimal investment you get a well thought out set of sounds.

Thanks again for your responses. No worries, Isaac!. As I said, I like the learning experience, and I feel like I am making headway, but I would be very interested in seeing how your patches are set up when you get around to it. Owning this thing has been a crash course in sound production. I may just go ahead and purchase a patch set from Richard Hunter, just to be able to see how a pro does it. Like buying a custom harp just to take it apart and look inside.....
