I got a lot of nice comments and emails about my cover of "Davidson County Blues" by DeFord Bailey, so I figured I'd post another one.
This one is Kyle Wooten's "Chokin' Blues". I absolutely love this song. I'm making good progress with itm but I eventually want to get it sounding as good as the original. I'd say I'm three-quarters of the way there, but the last twenty-five percent has got to be the hardest by far.
Anyway, I'd love any advice, constructice criticism, etc. that you can give. Thanks!
Lovin' this old time acoustic stuff you are putting up Interesting that they didn't use any cupping technique at all.No Wah Wah or similar effects, just naked harmonica playing. Very different to say Sonny Terrys style But it is the root of blues harp as we've come to know it.
Your internal tongue/throat placement sounds to me more "oh" or "ah" orientation. Try going for "eee". It will thin out the burdensome thickness to your tone.

Harp Study: flattery will get you everywhere -- challenge accepted! I'll make some video clips on key passages in these two songs (Chokin' Blues and Davidson County Blues). Might take me a little while though.
Thanks so much to all of you who have enjoyed my clips! I really like the early styles... I'm going to start working on DeFord Bailey's "Ice Water Blues" next. I'm also going to start working on a couple of short videos showing some of the key elements of these songs.
