My understanding is that the MBD and the Xover reedplates are in general terms the same, as are the MBs. And that they differ only in intonation. But, does the Xover reedplates have tighter tolerances? And if so, are they tighter nowadays?

Hi Jaime. To my knowledge the crossover plates are no different to the MBD plates in terms of tolerance.

The reed slot tolerances are pretty close, but the two things that are different are the tuning (actually temperament to be more precise about it) and the reed material itself that's different. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I've not heard that about different reed materials before. As far as I knew they are the exact same plates just with different temperament. Certainly when I buy reeds from Hohner there is no differentiation between reeds for various 'handmade' models. I have assumed Hohner use the same basic Reedplates for all the marine band models, as they do with sp20 and rocket.
