I have always loved the Muddy Waters song Baby Please Don't Go and the other day it came up on my ipod. There was one lick that just sat with me and I said I have to learn that lick. It's near the end of the song in Walter's solo and the lick starts around 2:24. It's a great little back and forth lick, I've heard RJ Mischo do it also, and was wondering if anyone had figured it out and could help me out?

Walter always, ALWAYS keeps me guessing and making me want to learn something new.

it's a hemiola triplet figure I think. Really cool...

I didn't watch the lesson but I think this is right.

That footage came from not that unusual of a night at Chicago's World Famous "Checkerboard Lounge" on South 43rd St, now defunct. It was Buddy Guy's bar for years prior to his opening of his new up-town joint, Buddy Guy's Legends. After he left it deteriorated, but this was when it was in its prime. It was not infrequent to have any of the Chicago blues greats gig or drop in there on any given night. It was one of my favorite night spots whenever I was in Chicago over a 20-year period ending this century. I'd seen this footage before but not in its remastered glory like this. Thanks for sharing, Daddy.

Here's a well-known picture of Buddy and Chicago blues fixture, Lefty Dizz confronting a rowdy at the Checkerboard's entrance. Dizz was an energetic performer and affable character who passed in the early 90s. He and I became friendly over the years after I caught his act so many times. He was also a cohort of Junior Wells a and accompanied him on the storied tour of Africa with and Manager/Promoter, Dick Waterman. (That's Mojo Buford on the harp here.)

The joint was sort of a scary dive but over the many times I went there I never, ever had an uncomfortable incident. I knew well what to expect but it was quite an experience for the various gentlemen who I'd drag there from the big annual X-ray convention every November so I wouldn't have to go by myself. We'd drive up and park among the stripped-down cars and their teeth were chattering but we'd receive a warm welcome once we got inside and all was well.

It was a slice of old-school authentic Chicago Blues that I consider myself very fortunate to have experienced. Thanks for spurring the memories, Daddy. I thought maybe y'all would enjoy a little background on the place where this was filmed since it's now long gone. The Checkerboard Lounge, one of a kind.
