So I'm still loving my little GA5 vintage Les Pal Jr. amp, but wiring in a line out hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped. It works but I get a bit of nasty distortion added to the sweet breakup you hear from the speaker. Looking at the waveforms of the signal recorded with a mic, and the signal straight from the line out to my DAW, the bottom half of the line-out wave looks clipped, the mic recorded wave looks normal. I had the same issue from the line out on the Lone Wolf se 6l6 amp I built.

I used the design on this link line out guide Kalamazoo amp field guide

Thoughts anyone?

How does the signal wave form compare to what the speaker is seeing? If there's clipping, it is the amp's design. The line out circuit is nothing more than a 10:1 voltage divider. It shouldn't have an effect on wave form.

Greg- I just emailed you with pic.s of waveforms and recordings of the output. Easier than doing that here on mbh. I can post follow up here if I get anywhere. Thanks

Greg is right, two resistors should have no effect on the waveform.

People use all kinds of values for the resistors - I generally start with 10K and 1K.

Sometimes the sound from the line out is too harsh. I find that a capacitor across the bottom resistors helps. All your doing is making a low-pass filer - rolling off the highs. You have to just play with values to find what sounds right for your amp and your ears, but .1uf is where I remember starting.
