I tried making a brass marine band cover plate by hand today just for the fun of it. I'm surprised I got it as close to usable as I did, but still not very good. I think I could do it if I took the time to make up some special tools just for the task. But it was fun trying. I really enjoy hand engraving and I've wanted to be able to make a cover plate or two so I could also hand engrave them. I think I'm going to have to keep trying.

Very very cool.

It reminds me of the intricate designs on the old colt peacemakers.

If you make one like this and put an Ivory Colored Comb on it .... Ill Definatly Buy One

Chris ... btw to make the images smaller and easier on those with computer browsers, after the " in the html link insert width="500" itll trim it down a bit. Or play with the number if you want, but you get the idea.

That is some nice work!
Are you doing that freehand?
Back in the late 80s I had an old shotgun with nice engraving like that.
if you could incorporate initials or a monogram that would awesome.

I use two methods generally, the old school hammer and chisel method, and more recently my pneumatic GRS handpiece. Ive really switched more to the pneumatic handpiece lately.
