To set the stage .. i'm.from the U. S., but live on the island of Bali, on the outskirts of town , more like a village, called Ubud , we are in the tropics , I have jungle and a river close to my house to the west .. there's a main road 60 yards to the east from my house , I have to enter a small 6 ft wide alley to get to my house from the main road .. only motorcycles can get in , no room for a car .. to the west is 1 house , the alley ends .. then a embankment which leads down to a river …

Late Jan. this year I played gig at my best friends daughters B-day party, their house is about 500 yards up my main road, on the other side of the street .. we played blues and rock .. I was using one of Gregg H.'s , Ultimate 545, playing harp through the PA ….
At that time my friends had just got a few weeks before, a young white colored 'Kintamani' dog, (local breed that exists only on the island of Bali ) , he was about 2.5 months old , and, they named him Simba …

4 days ago Simba snuck out of a break in their gate, late at night, and ... didn't return … of course my friends and their young boy was heart broke … everyone had completely given up hope after day 3 of Simba missing ...

Today , the 4th day, this afternoon , I came home from these folk's house in the afternoon , turned on Jimmy Rodgers 'Feeling Good' CD, with Rod Piazza on harp …had it on fairly high volume … went to working on a small project on the front porch ,with my back to the alley , not 10 minutes into my project, for some reason I turned around, I really don't know why I turned around ... and saw a flash of a white dog approach from the west , it turned around , in front of my gate and ran back to the west and river… I went to the alley and looked ,but, the dog was gone, at that same time a friend was coming to my house down the alley from the east, i asked her if she saw a white dog in the alley .. she replied . .yes but he ran back to the river .. we talked for a few minutes. i didn't want to be rude and leave her running off to check for this dog ..
Well .. the dog came back up the alley as we was talking, Jimmy and Rod was still on ..
Low and behold .. it was Simba, and so, the happy ending ! : )

Now the question arrises .. why did Simba pick that time and that place, a small alley, far from his house, after so many days ..to come out from the jungle and river, to venture up, and only as far as my entryway …where he turned and ran back towards the river … .only to reappear a few minutes later allowing me to pet and hold him …

There is now no doubt in my mind it was the music and the harp in it that first attracted him , then of course my voice while i was talking with my friend…. a voice that he know's so well … with music heavy with Rod's harp (in no way am i comparing my playing to Rod Piazza) however, I do have good tone and some chops ….

Simba was very young when the B-day party happened. I sit in ad play with several bands here in Ubud, that night , it was the Cool Tones playing this party There had not been before , nor has there been since a party or live music played at my friends house , and definitely no blues played there .. not that they don't like the blues, they just don't play music at that house …

How about that for a heart warming and cool harp story : )

Great story. As a guy who loves dogs more than just about anything, your tale was the perfect start to my day. Glad your friends have their buddy back.

Thanks

The dog came back, in a few days. The cat came back the very next day!

Good to hear he made it back. We found a lost dog the last time I was out visiting my dad in San Diego. He seemed to like me best out of the family. I had to catch a flight before they found his owner, but I was told that when the owner did turn up he looked a lot like me. (Poor guy!) Animals look for familiar things.

On a couple occasions I've suggested using an amp to try to find a pet that won't come home. I wasn't thinking playing music (although we had one cat that loved the Beatles 'Blackbird', probably because of the bird chirps). My suggestion was to hold the mic to the can opener or shake a bag of treats into the mic.

Dogs have four times the hearing range of a human.

I am sure hearing a familiar sound brought him out.

My french bulldog knows my whistle any where
My African grey parrot mimics my whistle almost perfectly and the dog knows the difference

Whats the difference between a dog and a girlfriend?

Lock them both in a closet for an hour and the dog is still happy to see you when you open the door

How did you get your bulldog to learn French? My pit is barely fluent in barking.
