Bulletini mic testdrive. Also in this video I'm comparing Bulletini with Astatic JT-30 (average CM element) and electrovoice re-10. Sound was recorded in 2 ways: using my photo camera and using my soundcard. Sound part of the video starts from ~ 2.32
Hope you will find this video useful.

It's fun to hear (and see) the differences between these mics. It's not that one is necessarily 'better' than another, just different. I do like the bulletini, though. Great sound in a small package. Thanks for the demo!

Hello, Robbert! I'm glad that you've found it useful.
It's second part of sound test. No pedalboard were used :) just mics and amp :)

I find the differences to be so subtle to say any one of those mics sound good and my preference might change on a day to day basis.

Now, a rational person might think that means you really only need 1 of those mics, or perhaps if you already have 1 you need not buy any of the others, but we all know what it really means.

Thank you this is very useful.

Please could you tell us a bit more about what you found about varying the sound when opening/closing the cup (First video: Bulletini 3m vs JT-30 4m22s). My own experience is that the Bulletini timbre doesn't vary quite as much as another mic, and that's what it sounds like there.

I simply want to understand if this is my technique or nature of the mic.

arnenym, thank you so much!

Thievin' Heathen, thank you for interest. For me it's all about hand effects and comfort grip.
That's why I have 10 mics :)

MindTheGap, you are welcome! You know I think it's a nature of the mic (or element to be more exact). JT-30 reacts better on hands effects but there is a big volume drop if I play it uncupped ( I think that's why hand effects are good). I can't say that hand effects with Bulletini are bad (they are far better then for example with shure 57, 58 or audix fireball) but they are not so bright and readable like with old CM or CR element.

Wheel, thank you that makes sense. One of the things I like about the Bulletini is that I can play it one-handed and there is still a nice strong signal. So I guess you gain one thing and lose another.

One of the things I love about the bulletini is that I don't get a huge volume drop between cupped and uncupped like I do on my other bullet mics. For me that is a very good thing. I want a tonal change but not necessarily a dynamic change. I have other methods of varying the dynamics such playing volume and volume control, so I have always kind of hated the uncupped volume drop that would get from my other bullet mics. No longer an issue with the bulletini mic. I also find it really comfortable to play.

This kind of test is both good and bad. You can hear the difference between the mic's performance and caracter witha a certain mic as a reference. In this case a JT30.
But you don't hear how the bulletini or EV sound when you adjust the amp to have them sound as best they can do. They both are more bassy and have slightly lower output than a CM. But they sound good as hell with the right amp , adjusted for the best sound. Just my 2 cents..

Agreed, You need to match your mic to your amp and there are a lot of ways to do it.

The bulletini does sound great straight in with that amp. I bet the CM with a VC turned down abit would sound a lot like that bulletina with your amp.
Do you have a VC?

Greg Heumann , you are welcome! Great mic with its own voice!
arnenym , You know yes and no. If only one mic was in this test everybody will think : "good sound", "very bassy" etc. But human mind need to compare something with something. Personally I like Bulletini (but I need a bigger shell).
About settings on the combo - it's a pretty common setting that again everybody would like if it was only one mic in this demo - more bass, less treble.
BTW VHT6 special became a very good amp after I've installed alnicomagnet mod, jj tubes and jensen p10r speaker. I like it more then bassman, deluxe reverb or blues junior that I've played.
528hemi, yes I have. Bluexlab VC.

"Personally I like Bulletini (but I need a bigger shell)."

That's no problem, Konstantin. I'm in the gasket business! The Heumann Element is available independent of the Bulletini, and I have gaskets to fit it to popular Shure, Astatic and Turner shells, as well as my own wood mics.

Cheers!

This is exactly what I want from a comparison: everything else being kept constant, and some repeated phrases and techniques. So that it highlights differences.

So again, thank you.

A different comparison would be to optimise everything to show off each mic to it's best. I can understand other people might want that, but it's a different thing. There are already a number of videos (in Greg's post) which show off the Bulletini to best effect. There's always the sense that it might be more about the player and the other equipment.

Greg Heumann, that's cool! I will write you. thank you.

MindTheGap, you are welcome and thank you for supportive words! I just think in same way about this test. I'm thinking about buying bulletini element alone and that will be the next test. :)

I didn't say it's a bad test. Personally i like this kind of test with a familiar reference.
But when i saw comment like the bulletini is muddy i have to say something about the adjustment.
Bulletini is a must have for me.
I just have to put up the treble more and maybe a little more volume to have it talk to my heart.
And it sure does.
BTW. I have my element in a JT30 shell with a 100K VC.
