Anyone playing a Champ with a 12" speaker? Wondering how it compares to a 10"

I have a 12" cab I use with some champish amps. But I haven't tried a 12" champ combo.
My 12" cab is closed back and ported, speaker is a Plessey Rola, alnico, suspect it's 20 watt. Every little amp I use it with performs better than with the combo speaker.
I have 2 Valve Jr amps I use it with...one is running a 6V6 and Lone Wolf preamp mods, the other has the Nigel Briggs 'alnicomagnet' blues harp mods...
Also used my LW 6L6SE with it...this amp has a 10" celestion tube 10 in the combo...I found the 12" speaker gave it more punch, just a bit bigger presence in the room.
The one 5 watt amp I haven't used it with is my 5F1 clone. Maybe I will do this next jam.
Not to hijack, but seems related..I'm wondering about an 8" speaker with champ in a larger cab. Is there a difference vs a champ cab?

Not sure why but from my experience using open back cabs, cramming a big speaker in a small cabinet does not sound as good as a larger cabinet.
I know there's a lot of factors involved, wood type, baffle wood and thickness, depth of cabinet, etc:

Similar to SuperBee I use a 12" Weber Alnico in a homemade cabinet. The Cabinet is built to approximately the same dimensions as a Blues Jr and is open back and made of 3/8 and 1/2" pine. Amp is 5F2-A combo (can't recall the speaker type).

I find the sound better (fuller)than in the combo. A lot of variations there so probably hard to compare to what you are doing.

My amp and cabinet can be seen here:

Look at gmacleod15 Nov 30 post. They are the bottom center and one in the chair. Lots of nice amp candy in that thread.

check out our Windy City amp, its got a standard 1/4 inch jack on board to allow you to plug in any size cabinet you want and get that 6v6 or 6l6 driving to it. www.sonicpipeamps.com

I have a Vicky 5112 sitting in my car right now. I have played it head to head with the Memphis Mini. It sounds louder because if has more bite and cut through a band. I don't know if it necessarily had more bass, though...

Did you know that a Champ head will fit in a Fender Musicmaster Bass cab? That cab uses a 12" speaker...BN
