Been using my VHT for some smaller gigs...works pretty well but I have heard that[switching] tubes makes a big difference....what seems to be the best set up?

JJ tubes made an easy to hear difference.
Good luck!

Get yourself a NOS or good used vintage 5751 and run a JJ 6V6s. You will be a happy camper for a long time. i find the JJ 12ax7 rather dark and lack luster.

You do realize that this is all very subjective. As far as new production goes, Tung Sol 12AX7's are pretty good tubes.

I do like JJ tubes for all my amps (guitar and harp). Not to promote anyone in particular, but I do have really good luck with the guys at Eurotubes. They set up up right and get you what you need fast. Good customer service, etc.

The only other new production 12AX7 I would recommend outside of the Tung Sol RI's are the Mullard reissues. However, the NOS versions of the Tung Sol 12AX7 or the long plate NOS GE's from the mid 50's to the mid 60's I would take in a heartbeat over ANYTHING being made presently.

Thanks guys I think I will try the 5751 and the JJ 6v6s and see how I Like that.....I have about 6-7 hours time on mine...I am guessing the speaker might still need a little break in.....

In my experience, if you want to improve the tone of an amp, you need to change the speaker, the tubes dont change the tone that much.

I may do that but I have heard that in an effort to keep these affordable the tubes are not that great and upgrades yield good results.....not a bad amp stock and for the money...maybe the best deal out there...keeps up pretty well even with a full band [as long as they aren't crazy loud]...surprisingly heavy for a 6 watt amp... way more than my Zoo

+1 on the 5751. Take the edge off and reduces gain a little.

rogonzab is correct and so is Greg. There is not going to be a huge change and yes they did use cheap tubes. The JJ 6V6s has a fat tone and the 5751 will warm up any amp without a significant reduction in volume.

I would say save your money on the speaker swap. I doubt you will find a speaker that will improve this amp for harp. The stock speaker sounds pretty damn good in my opinion and you can spend a gang of cash chasing that tail...BN
