Yes, I know, that is cool, lots of mics, amps, gasket and all, but I loved that Jimmy Reed T-shirt!! ---------- Sorry for any misspell, english is not my first language.
That was great. I knew Greg did some fine machining and wood turning to produce his products, - but that is really impressive. Thanks for sharing Jason's video.
Every time I have used one of Greg's mics I have been amazed at his precision work and the great resulting products. Now I understand a little better what it takes to make his mics and other gear.
Most of my playing these days is not through an amp in my amplified blues band. The Ultimate 58 is my go-to mic for vocals and harp through the PA in my acoustic band and also when I play as a side man in other acoustic bands.
It was great to see a video by Jason of the source workshop of Greg's great products. ----------
@Stokes - naw, actually the Burl Ives tune that rings in my head is "Holly Jolly Christmas" - but I couldn't come up with it on the spot during Jason's "interview" :). ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
Met greg on oct blues cruise--- he left a bulletini plugged in, for people to try---It worked great--easy to cup as well--wish he would have played more -when he played,I learned stuff to try--- this video shows u that ALL the prices charged by harp customizers, mic makers, amp makers etc, are more than worth it--greg briefly mentioned 'it takes a few tries b4 u get the settings right"-- well thats time, money loss in materials etc ---again this is why his prices are super fair and reasonable----Im going to get a ultimate 57-- lighter and smaller than a reg 57--- easier to cop---I loved hetrick stuff but we didn't support him enough--- please support Greg ---He's stuff works--- he took the effort to invest in all this time and MONEY--- so I hope we keep supporting him--BECAUSE HIS STUFF IS HIGH QUALITY AND IT WORKS GREAT THANKS VIDEO INFORMATIVE
Some day I'll do a video that shows more doing and less talking - and I'll have time to clean the shop first. If I ever get some time...... ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
Greg: That is an impressive video. It demonstrates beyond any doubt that when you speak (or write) about harmonica microphones you know what you are talking about. I outsource all my CNC machining and trust me when I say I'm glad I do. It is hard enough to be an expert at one thing much less every aspect of what you do. My hat's off to you my friend. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com
That was great, thanks Jason and Greg :) Wonderful to see the workshop where you create all that great stuff.
As a guy who does something similar but different, what you say about the 'testing time' creating new products resonates with me, Greg. For every good solid reliable one that finally comes out there are so many blind alleys, false hopes, total failures, semi-failures, nearly-there junkers, tearing-your-hair-out mystified "what's gone wrong/not fitting/leaking now?" episodes along the way.
But that Eureka moment when you get everything dialled in and then solidly repeatable is such a buzz, worth all the struggle and twists and turns to get there. And actually the struggle is fun too; in some ways the failures are the most useful because you often learn more from what doesn't work than does.
I really love the time we're in now, where the power of free or cheap CAD software and associated affordable machinery (CNC millers and lathes, 3D printers, laser cutters etc) allows anyone with the passion and dedication to create amazingly high precision stuff in their small home workshops. And the wealth of knowledge that is shared on places like YouTube and specialist forums about everything under the sun makes the learning process so much easier. The barriers to competing with and even out-innovating the big manufacturers have largely come down, which is good for everyone who wants more than just the stock mass-produced item.
It's a great time to be alive and making stuff!
