Hi folks, after some excellent advice on here and some great pointers I've been making a fair bit of progress with my tuning but there are still quite a few issues.
I'm finding that I'll tune my harps ( crossovers) and they really don't stay in tune that long. I play a lot of octave style playing, old-time tunes in first pos and cajun tunes etc.
I'm actually finding to keep a harp really nicely in tune, I have to tune it all the time. Almost as much time spent as playing!!
Is this unusual? would another brand of harps make a difference, I heard stainless steel reeds stay in tune for longer. Is a seydel a better option.
I'm sure the problem is me and not the harmonicas but I did wonder if certain models have a better rep than others for staying in tune.( i've been trying not to play too hard)

thanks ! Ed

How are you tuning your harps? How are you cleaning and storing your harps?

Even if you are very picky about tuning, you shouldn't need to be adjusting the tuning as much as you are playing - no matter what brand...

Hi, Tuning with a swiss needle file and storing them in a pouch. I do live on a boat so temperature fairly variable!

actually, noticed another issue. Not very pleasant but it seems when I'm tuning saliva is getting on the reeds and this is creating inconsistencies! yuk!!

Yea u want to keep the saliva and even just moisture from hot breathe off. It will mess up your tuning. Also make sure your not bending notes ...even the slightest bit of change in your mouth and tongue position will effect tuning. Play very lightly with your mouth as neutral as possible.

Actually thats one of the best things arzajac's french tuner does. It alows you to tune one reed plate at a time. Therefore eliminating possibility of the opposite reed sounding.

The saliva is also a sing of you playing with far too much breath force.
