I'm looking for a couple of Suzuki Bluesmaster combs with or without coverplates, in good condition. Willing to pay a reasonable price (only PayPal). Barter would also be an option, I have two Promaster combs with coverplates and some stock Manji combs to offer. Please send me a private mail if interested.
@shakeylee: Thanks for your interest. Maybe I shouldn't be so picky, but I prefer black combs :-) - so from what I can see from pictures on the internet Delta Frost would be ok as well. @MoonCat: I checked out bluemoonharmonicas.com, great stuff there! Unfortunately I can't afford to spend the same amount I would spend for a harmonica only for a comb. Thanks anyway!
yes! andrew zajac makes a great comb ,i love them. i didn't bring them up though because i took it the OP wanted a recessed job, like stock or blue moon.
BTW,my only blues master is a red comb too. i believe at one time some were red in certain keys :) my red combed bluesmaster now has soul's voice cover plates. i don't know how to post pics, but there are pics of it on my site. ---------- www.shakeylee.com
Ahhh yes, I forgot about the recessed vs. tin sandwich designs. I had just finished up putting Fabulous F20 plates in 1 of Andrews's combs and those were a tin sandwich with cover plates cannibalized from a very early Promaster. It must have been 1 of my 1st Promasters because it has rivets on the reeds and backing nuts on the reed plate screws. Making a cover plate gasket using medical tape has become 2nd nature as I have been re-combing my Lee Oskars since back when you could still buy Hetrick bamboo combs.
Funny thing, the Lee Oskars seem to reap the least dramatic improvement from a comb change and I think that's testament to the quality of his stock combs. I suspect I would find the same thing with a Session Steel.
One of the Customizers, Joe Spiers I think, offers, and promotes the benefits of, keeping the pearwood combs in Marine Bands. So, I work on making the pearwood (and sometimes peachwood) as best as possible, but I keep a stock of Andrews MB combs on hand for the times I screw up the wood ones.

I like Andrew's solid combs. I built up a couple special 20s on them, and they definitely play a bit better. I dug out a couple of my promaster yesterday...put sp20 covers on one a while back, thought I should extend the treatment to a couple others...and take the valves out, have a go at making them play well...while I was at work on the Db I noticed the plates are stamped with a 2004 date, and the reeds are riveted. The plates were generally very clean, with exception of 9 draw reed which was bright green. The corrosion was easy to scrape off. Not sure what that means. The anodised comb was well covered but surface quite uneven to start with. One thing I have noticed about Suzuki, where they are pack leaders, is their hardware...very high quality screws. Of the 'big 3'...(in my mind, hohner, Suzuki, seydel) Suzuki has the best hardware and seydel the worst.
superbee,i would love to hear and see some of these bitsa harmonicas. the bluesmaster with the gold covers and the zajac combed ones ---------- www.shakeylee.com
