Snake, James Cotton’s harp wrangler and chief cook and bottle washer, showed me Cotton’s amp at the Weehawken concert this evening. He said he’d replaced the first pre-amp tubes with a 12AU7 and another with a 12AT7 in order to cut back on the gain and improve the amp’s tone and resistance to feedback. 2 things I found interesting..,
1) He does not have the volume(s) up around 8 where you supposedly get the "tube overdrive" effect. Maybe it's not attainable?
2) He's using a lot of "presence"

I wonder if he jumpers the channels?

Thanks 1847 for this peak into the world of JC. Funny thing though, he would still sound great with a 545 through the PA.
