I think perhaps, we should all get together in some corner and have a MBH impromptu Jam session. Anyone have any ideas?

Count me in! I'm so excited about it I'm already losing sleep. That may be a good thing as it might actually condition me for some sleepless SPAH nights.

I dig the MBH get together. We should find a time and place that fits into the busy daily and evening SPAH schedule. This might mean someone's room after hours. That leaves me out as I'm staying at my son's apartment on the far side of town. Any volunteers?

Good idea, Harvey!

I'm going and will be working for Seydel that week

If you want to expand and extend your musical skills beyond the blues, plan on attending Jimi Lee's jazz jam in the evening. Great tips...

I'll be there Tuesday fairly early. My plane arrives at 2:50 PM. I will have a vendor's booth and I will host a workshop. I only plan to be a "part-time" vendor. I'm looking forward to indulging myself by attending a lot of workshops, seminars an performances (and maybe even staying up past my bedtime).

I would love to hook up with as many of you guys as possible. It would be nice if I knew your names. A lot of guys don't have any information posted here other than your user name. If you feel so inclined, drop me an email and help me connect the dots.

Yes, I'll be there, it'll be my 5th SPAH. I'd be up for MBH meetup/jam if there's a good time slot for it. There's already some seminars I'm set on going to but I didn't see a schedule yet. More then likely be at most of the morning & evening jams.

If anyone can

a) supply me with a round trip ticket from Sydney Australia to Denver
b) explain to my wife why I need to be gone for a week

then I'll be there. Otherwise, it'll have to wait for any time

Nice to see all the folks coming to Denver. Of course I'll be there - my last convention as president, before I hand off the title to Michael D'Eath.

I'll be performing on Thursday in the alternate "melody" show (i.e., non-blues for those members who aren't into blues) with violinist Tuula Tossavainen Cotter. PT Gazell is also on that show. The drag of it is that I'll miss Jason Ricci's show, his first at SPAH since 2010, and also the featured performance by my student, Rosebush Youth Scholarship recipient Jack Pawlakos.

I shut down the whole split show thing after 2009 (even though I wasn't in the big chair) because it was difficult to manage and forced hard choices.

But with an all-blues lineup on Thursday, we had to do something so that a big chunk of our audience wouldn't be left with no suitable entertainment for an entire evening. Thus the return of the split show, at least this year. I suppose I could have simply not volunteered to play, but with my violinist partner coming anyway, the creative juices got flowing. We're doing a show of Latin tunes that became pop hits in the US in about the middle third of the 20th century. It's been fun researching the tunes - now we're in the throes of creating arrangements.

Some of the mics I'm bringing to SPAH:

From L-R:
  1. Redwood Burl w/ 1/8th note grill
  2. Golden Amboyna Burl with Yin-Yang grill
  3. Mora with Waves grill
  4. Cocobolo with Mercedes grill
  5. Acid Trip with Weave grill
  6. Kingwood w/ straight slot grill
  7. Spalted Maple laminated with purpleheart (can't see the laminate in this photo) with Turbine grill
  8. Tiger Maple with Lightning grill.
The mics have a range of options, elements and finishes - from The Heumann Element to CM to CR - and range in price from $289 to $679 (Golden amboyna burl mic with black label CR, stealth volume control, piano finish, brass yin yang grill.) AND if bought at SPAH you save shipping, sales tax AND get 10% off these prices.
Sorry for the wonky photo - I didn't have enough mic stands at the same height and angle!
I'll have a full range of Ultimate mics, volume controls, wireless systems, adapters, etc - there as well.
If you're on the fence about SPAH - now you know you should be there!

You have done a great job as president.
The SPAH Conventions under your leadership were well put together, entertaining, and just all around fun.
Appreciate your service.

Hey I wish I was going to SPAH but I'm not, partly because I have a gig up at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons Co on Saturday the 15th with Session Americana. We are also doing a warm up gig in Denver on Thursday the 13th at Cervantes:(http://www.cervantesmasterpiece.com/calendar/ ) I am sorry to miss all the fun and great music at the Crowne Plaza, but if any of you all want to get away from the hotel and see some live music in town please come on down, or drop me a line. No it's not blues but it is pretty harmonica-centric. Here is a sample from our latest CD:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmnbRIK-w6M.
All the best and if not I hope to see you at the next SPAH...
Sincerely

I can't compete with Greg's beautiful photography and these little guys are real bears to take a good photo of anyway, but I thought I'd mention a new product line, "HarpTags." An homage to military dog tags, this time handmade for "veteran" harmonica players.

I won't have a booth but I'll have a few of these in my purse. If any SPAH attendees should be interested, catch me in the halls. Otherwise you can contact me via email. I'm testing the water with a few examples that I've made from used cover plates. If there is sufficient interest, I'll order new ones, or if you have a favorite you can send it to me and I'll make your HarpTag to your exact specifications.

Right now, to keep costs down I have them in copper or brass. I could make them with silver or gold plate backing but the cost would rise accordingly. I could also have the cover plates themselves plated. The cost for brass or copper will be $50 plus the cost of the cover plate (unless you provide one or I use one of my used ones).

Whatever the case, I'd be interested in how all y'all hard-core bluesmen would feel about wearing one of these HarpTags. I get lots of compliments when I wear mine!

Thanks!

Michelle

Lets meet on Wednesday, right after the Blues Showcase at the back of the Ballroom. It looks like we have a break in the action for about an hour, then. That is 3:00 at the back of the ballroom.
