This is an extreme close-up of a needle on vinyl.

Way back in the early 80s when I first discovered Blues, it was, of course, all vinyl. I had quite the collection by the late 80s.

Fast forward to now and I don't own either an LP or the equipment to play one. But sometimes I'm tempted; I do miss so many aspects of vinyl.

Does anyone here still listen old school, and have any interesting old Blues albums lying about that they want to brag about?

Have enjoyed a few current alt band recordings (like Portishead) in which they actually add that scratchy needle sound to a song recorded digitally.

Reminded me of how much I enjoyed LP's, along with the hiss/pop/noise added to the music as part of a whole.

My uncle gave my sister a crate of his old albums to sell on eBay. I went through them, and they were all classic Ray Charles, and tons of old jazz. So, obviously, we sold none of them!

That served as my basis to get back into vinyl; since I had the old school big speakers/amp with phono input, I just needed the record player.

Eventually scored a decent one, and now vinyl is amazing. I've been picking up albums when I get a chance--some of the re-pressed Butters stuff from SunDazed, some old albums from record stores and online--and it's great. The Sky King album with Madcat (1977 maybe?)! The Johann Sebastian Plays Bach LP!

My uncle passed away earlier this year (he had been sick for a while), but he sure as hell knew how much I loved his albums. And, man, he not only had taken meticulous care of them--you could tell he had played the hell out of them, too.

So they still sound the best, to me.
