It's worth pointing out that replacement reed plates cost only a little more than having your harp repaired--Ron has RP for $32, with discounts for larger quantities.
That being said, it is also true that sometimes you really like the harmonica you were playing (until it broke) and only need that one note fixed--or perhaps it was a custom . . .
My advice is to learn to do it yourself (as Jim has) and buy new reed plates when it makes more sense--but never throw old harmonicas and parts away, they don't take up much room and may "save your life in combat" someday . . .
