I came across an Astatic Brown Biscuit at a local antique shop. its untested and has a screw on connector. the wire is connected to the mic and the connector is at the end of the wire.

somewhat like this: http://lemicrophone.free.fr/ImagesBis/astaticbisc3.jpg

is it worth it even if its untested? I'm young with only so much to spend. but to me 45 seems more than worth it. what kind of mods would i need to do to it? HALP. And thank you so much.

45 is a good price for the shell only, go for it!

Agreed. You might ask them if that's their best price and they might knock off another $5. You could always resell it here if you decide not to have a connector installed. I love the way the biscuits cup but I understand they're a bit of a pain to install a volume pot in if you need one.

I would recommend contacting Greg Heumann at:
www.blowsmeaway.com
greg@blowsmeaway.com
He can help you out. If you got some extra cash he can fix and/or modify that mic to your liking.

only a harmonica player could come up with that topic heading and think it was normal.

That isn't too surprising. However, $45 isn't too bad for a shell (assuming the biscuit fits your hands well). It's a bit more than I would go, but I see them go for a lot more than that on a regular basis on ebay.

I'm sure you can get a new element & gasket for a reasonable price from either Greg at blowsmeaway, James at simplemics, technobird at harpmicshop or several others depending on where you're located. You can either order the parts and install your self or for just a bit more ship the shell to them and they'll install it for you. If the shell fits your hands well; I'd get a new element, but if it doesn't I would sell the shell as is and get what you can out of it.

Hey, Stupiddingus - I'm sorry I didn't see your thread originally. People told you to contact me - that adapter you bought on eBay for $16.95 without a human being who plays harmonica and speaks amplified harp at the other end? I sell them for $14.95.

I fail to understand why people would rather buy something on eBay, which is full of misinformation and ripoffs and has separated many a harp player from his money - instead of coming to someone like me who specializes in amplified harp and is frequently recommended because people who DO do business with me find out I have great customer service and harp-specific knowledge.

Sorry. I just had to get that off my chest. Sour grapes for sure. And - to those folks who recommended me - I am grateful and very much appreciate it. This is a word of mouth business!

My advice would be to send it to Greg Heumann and have him install a 99A86 element and gasket in it. Then you'll have a really killer mic.
