I've been practicing a little on my G harp in 1st. Thank slaphappy for posting "1st position low octave question".
I'll be the first to admit this needs work in spots and at times sounds like a dying cow...lol I'm still thinking about technique too much and need to be more musical.
I play one break in each octave and try to get all the overblows.
Duane, I know you're a proponent of throat bending and sometimes it sounds cool, but I'd also like to hear a smoother sounding vibrato that can be achieved with the tongue. Just my own little opinion; otherwise sounds okay.
I totally hear you on the technique vs. musicality thing when it comes to 1st position. I get the same feeling about myself. What track did you use? I'd like to take a whack at it... ---------- Ridge's YouTube

Thanks ridge! I will play with the vibrato techniques. Yes, I still have not recorded anything I'm happy with for Adam's soprano challenge. That video had a huge effect on the direction I took my playing.
I don't use in live performance, but I regularly practice playing chromatically with a "G" and a high "G". My thinking is that if I can get all the overbends on these two, everything in between should come easier.
Like I say, I need to stay at it. The one hole overblow is a horse on a low G, but to sustain it and make it usable is crazy.
Here ya go Dan and anyone else. I just used the last 3 verses.
