Hi Everyone,

I guess this is a shout out to Moon Cat.

I've been listening to a version of Bei Mir Bist Du Shoen and wanted to get more info on it and came across this thread.

http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/445325.htm

I'd always assumed this was performed by Chris Michalek, but in this thread he claims its Jason Ricci.

Here's the piece:

I hope someone can clarify.

Regards

Steve

I think Michalek was pulling legs; later in the thread he claims it's Adam Gussow!

It actually sounds like Howard Levy to me.

Hey, I win! It's track two on the Howard Levy's Acoustic Express CD "Time Capsules".

Okay, it's not the same recording but the playing is very similar.

If it isn't Howard Levy, it's someone who sounds just like him.

You're right Timeistight. I think Chris studied under Howard, so you may be right there. I think Chris was a bit of a leg puller from what I read.

Hmmm... it's not Jason and it's not Buddha. I would put money on it... just not their styles.

I would, however, put money on it being Howard (it could be Jason Rosenblatt either, but it sounds like Howard to me). Too many Howard-specific stylistic things, tone, vibrato, rhythmic patterns and general virtuosity to be anyone else really.

blintgy like soundcloud, ug

Howard for sure..
The only other couple guys that come close to playing that would be Jason Rosenblatt or Sandy Weltman.

I've listened to both recordings again and I'm even more convinced that it's Levy.

He's going to be a SPAH this year. Maybe he'll play it there.

OK OK!!! Heh.... Howard it is. Too many voices are in accord on this. It is such a great piece of music, it would stand to reason that it would take someone like Howard not only to play it, but also assemble other musicians of that calibre.

Great thread Steve and a testament to Howard's playing. Absolutely unbelievable yet we must believe it.
