I was thinking of doing some Bossa tunes like "Gentle Rain"and using the Bass and drums from Band in a Box and porting that over to the new Garage Band and record nylon string and Chrom harp. Any Band in a Box users here. ----------
Yeah, I'd do that. I've gone back to using BIAB for some things - in fact just bought the Mac crossgrade so I can use it for some of my upcoming Harmonica Collective teaching sessions.
You can export the whole track as a WAV file, or each instrument track as its own WAV file. A bit more work to do separate tracks, but gives you more power over the final mix, especially you're adding more instruments. =========== Winslow
I have a bunch of BIAB files exported as MIDI that I use as tracks when I play out--some of my backgrounds are higher grade, purchased commercially, still others I created myself either with controllers or by "mousing it out". I purchased BIAB 2013 on the hard drive, have used it a little but with iRealPro on my phone and tablet, the need is less. The Real Band stuff is quite impressive tho . . . wonder how their harmonica sounds!
i use mixcraft 6 and cheap version pro tools---always do .wav----always 1 track at time like winslow said---I buy from http://www.karaoke-version.com/?app_currency=USD&gclid=CIv8i6G437kCFcg1QgodwRUA8w -----------they have audio or midi--- when I do audio I download each individual track---drums----bass--- etc--i make sure I START THEM AT EXACT SAME START POINT----usually works-------------so if u want to transfer .wav from one program to next---make sure tempo is same--in both----then [1] start each track at same point------OR AT the BEGINing OF SONG -PUT A SNARE HIT ON ALL TRACKS THEN LINE THAT HIT UP WITH EACH TRACK---long winded and overly impressed with my own, unimportants----a common failing with harp players---just kidding
My copy of Band in a Box (BIB) is old. I only get the synth sounds I have used it, but rarely now since I can find most of the backing tracks I need on Youtube.
When someone talks about BIB, I always think of Danny G. He uses BIB extensively for his performances. He's a chromatic player. He gives workshops on BIB. You can reach out to him via his online store newharmonica.com.
I record with it. The issue is getting zero latency and porting in to audacity or something else can give problems. It only lets you add one wav file and dub over, but you can make one, copy it elsewhere on a different name, make a new one etc....then clean up with audacity.. compression etc there.
I use my rp 350 as the interface, to do that you need to set the recording to use the rp350, not the onboard mic and playback
I've been using Band in a Box for over 15 years. I buy the upgrade each year, each year it is better.
The program is aptly named. Think of anything you'd like to try, a minute or so with Band in a Box and you have an excellent band ready to try it with you. ---------- Tony Eyers Australia www.HarmonicaAcademy.com everyone plays...
Thanks everybody! @Jim Rumbaugh the Danny Wilson is very close to my concept. Amazing how good that sounds. These guys genuises. Even the great jazz guitarist Jimmy Bruno sings the praises of Band in Box. ----------
Yeah, that's Danny G http://www.newharmonica.com/shopping/ He has an online music store and also plays lots of chromatic harmonica. Last name is Gajovski http://www.slidemeister.com/forums/index.php?topic=4863.msg57424#msg57424
