I just taught and performed at the Tulsa Harp Summit. They have been doing this for around 6 years and the list of past guest performers is quite impressive.

First off, let me say that the Tulsa Route 66 harp club led by David Bernston and Brian Walker was extremely professional, generous and kind with me from start to finish.

Upon arrival, I was taken to Bernston's home where the club members had a party. I got to meet several fascinating people, some of whom were very advanced on harp and understanding of harp mics, equipment, amps and mechanics.

I had worked with Gary Allegretto and RJ Mischo in many situations before and had seen Al Blake perform. Billy Gibson, John Long and Jimmy Junior Markham were new to me, although I had heard of Billy before. All were excellent players, singers and songwriters.

At the actual festival, held at the Jazz Depot, was a teaching session for kids, with free harps, a session for absolute beginners, a jam session, a discussion on collectible harps and tables and room for mics and amps and repair. Harland Crain, Dennis Oellig, the other John Popper and Mike Peace ran those discussion.

Then there was a two hour teach in where you could sit with any pro as long as you like. Then a 3 hour show where each performer played 30 minutes with a RJ's great backup band.

Although I have been at many harp festivals, this one had a truly special vibe. At only $20 per person, I highly recommend this for your future.

It was cool, and man-o-man, what raffle swag they had.

Thanks for the 2 hours Michael.

I picked up one of those, rarer than hen's teeth, Romel de-riveting tools.

See Y'all next year. $20???!!!

It's killing me that I couldn't make it sooner. I'm in Tulsa now visiting family.

Maybe I can time things better next year.

----------Michael enjoyed talking with you and Billy at the Summit. I sat at Billy Gibson's teaching session, but really enjoyed your performance. I knew you had a ton of technical knowledge but was pleasantly surprised at the way you can play the blues. Very impressive. Hope to see you next year.
