Hi,

I have an old turner mic (33x) and it came whit this conector, whit no wire atached:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Astatic-JT-30-Turner-Shure-Harp-Mics-5-8-Screw-On-2501F-Connector-/301452610157?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item462ff9ca6d

How can I use that conector to build me a cable like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-MADE-10-FOOT-F-5-8-SCREW-ON-M-1-4-PLUG-ASTATIC-JT-30-HARP-MIC-MIKE-CABLE-/281623171494?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41920c91a6

I cant unscrew any part to get to where I need to solder the cable.

I cant buy the 1/4 adapter in my country, that is why I need to build me the cable.

Thxs!

You should be able to loosen the set screw on the side and remove the spring. Strip the cable leaving plenty of center conductor sticking out. Put the spring over the cable and screw it onto the shield wire. Solder the shield wire to the spring and cut off the excess. Now strip the center conductor close to the spring. Tin the whole thing. Now you can aim it into the center hole of the connector. Tighten the set screw. Cut off the excess center conductor and solder.

The above is for one time deals. Pro cable makers like me do about 2x that many steps to ensure longevity.

This is the finding of the year!

You're welcome - sounds like you made a great find.

Now that you know how the cable is installed to the connector, you can see that the range of the cable being allowed to spin inside the connector is the most common cause of failure. If you're conscious of this fact, you can be sure when you attach/detach and coil your cable that you don't allow any twisting stress to build up between the connector and the cable. You should also do what you can to mechanically lock the cable to the connector for best longevity.

This is the same reason built-in cables fail in Shure bullet mics.
