I changed out the pre amp tubes to the recommended ones and now I'm trying to dial in the amp to get the best sound possible out of this hot rod deluxe.
If anyone can give me a good starting point on the settings like bass, presence, etc. I'd really appreciate it.

Bass 7, treble 3, middle 2, prescence 4, volume....where you can get it. Input number 2. Reverb no more than 2.
Clean channel only.
Settings will vary with taste, mic and room

Thanks Superbee
That's actually pretty darn close to where I had found it to sound best but I had Middle set on 6 and bass at 10.
The new tubes (GT A12y7) have made quite a difference.

yeah, i actually am guessing a bit with the middle, but the bass i found was generally true that if it went above 8 i was losing clarity. dunno if they are all the same but reverb on mine is very strong and usually on 2 is plenty lots. ultimately though, let your ears be your guide. playing style impacts people's preferences too. when i was playing this type of unit it was with kinda weird punky folky bluesrockish pop faux-indie hardcore theatre circus cabaret act and there was no guitar...people sometimes commented that i played the harp like a guitar...guess that was because of the shoulder strap...but what they meant was that i was playing rhythm lines, riffs, hooks and melodic lines...i didn't do a lot of wailing and honking, so i wanted the amp set up for grit but i absolutely needed it to give me clear tones...turning the bass up compromised the clarity...

You know SuperBee, bands need to have some diversity to keep people interested. Being pigeon holed with a band like that was certainly setting yourself up for failure.
