i ordered a custom harmonica and the seller has shipped it just fine. I even got a tracking number. But USPS has been saying orgin post is preparing shipment since the end of January
Whats up with that?

Once it i scanned at the post office that status should change, even before it leaves the country. To me it sounds like this was either never delivered to the post office, or, more likely, lost at the sending post office.
Post office tracking is very weak compared to FedEx or UPS but their rates are much, much better and their reliability is very good. Not perfect. But very good.
The seller needs to show the tracking status to his P.O. and tell them to get their act together - they were SUPPOSED to scan it. So if they didn't, either it is still there somewhere, or they screwed up in which case they should take responsibility. Doesn't mean they will, of course - they're an amazingly frustrating bureaucracy to deal with.
Don't ask me how I know.....
P.S. - as far as I'm concerned, if the seller says he dropped it at the P.O. you should trust that. We live, buy and sell in a very small, tight knit and connected international community of harp players. I could NEVER survive in business if I didn't ship what I said I shipped. That kind of news travels far and wide, faster than greased lightning.

I wasn't implying it wasn't sent, just that the OP shouldn't hesitate to ask for help on that end in finding it.

well, the harp was sent. The Latvian Post says that it is shipped, and the USPS says "orgin post is preparing shipment" but that was a month ago... I trust the seller and none of this is probably his fault, im guessing its the incompetence of the United States Postal Service
even the seller is wondering where it is..
edit: im on the phone with USPS right now. im probably gonna be listening to the "hold music" for a couple more hours

Well after being on hold for awhile, the lady told me that the harp hasn't left the country yet...
