I can't find my original thread so I thought I start this: coming back to harmonica after, well, decades, I found most of it still there, albeit a bit rusty. But there was this annoying problem I had trying to control the 2 hole draw. I didn't have that problem years ago that I can remember.

Then just the other day I read a thread here about not letting air escape through the nose while bending, and I immediately gave that a go. Bingo, problem solved.

I must have been something that I did instinctively way back but had forgotten about this time around. I think I know why that has been a problem.

A while back I had a big brain tumor and because it was under the brain, two surgeons went up through my nose to try and scrape some of it out, old school. One used a camera, the other tools, one nostril each, no waiting.

To get in to where the tumor was they had to drill through the skull and, not being too careful, they messed up a lot of soft tissue in the nasal cavity.

A while after all this I was having problems breathing and a specialist looked up my nose and said it was a mess up there, and I had to go for a corrective surgery to fix up that soft tissue as much as possible.

I know I'm heading into tl;dr territory, but I think what all this mean is that my breathing through my nose is subtlely different now than before any of those surgeries, and without thinking about that I wondered why my technique from way back was failing to work now on that hole. What's had to happen is that I take into account the physical changes that have occurred and some parts of playing the harp (like this 2 hole draw) I've had to relearn.

If you're ever teaching harp and someone has a problem on that hole, get them to check how they are breathing.

Pretty chuffed - had to share. Because my local bartender doesn't care.

So glad to hear you figured that problem out, and you're still able to play.

I actually had to google 'tl;dr'... Personally I find stories like this a real inspiration.

You are the epitome of the phrase 'keep on harping', thanks for sharing.
