Someone that I know told me that when he got off of an airplane at an airport in south Florida recently, he saw a guy carrying some musical instruments. My friend asked the guy what he was doing, and the musician replied that he was going on a cruise, and everyone that would be there was a blues harp player, and they were all going to jam. Does anyone here know anything about this?

The young life guard where I swim said he was blown away by a harp player on a recent cruise a couple weeks ago. He had never seen a band centered around a harp player before and they were playing blues, which he knew nothing about. He was still just blown away by this harp player and was mesmerized for over an hour and a half! Then he ask me if I knew this harp Player? Sugar Blue! Enough said, no wonder he was blown away and what a way to get introduced to the blues, let alone blues harmonica.

The Blues Cruise is always sold out over a year in advance. They let people who have been before, book before others. So a first timer has to book a expensive cabin. (All the other cabins are already booked) If you can get a cabin, you send a deposit close to a year in advance, this is BEFORE they even announce who is going to play.

Ironically, I just suggested this, kind of tongue in cheek, to Jim Rumbaugh.

I had signed up for the Harmonicollege and he asked if my wife was coming with. I responded only if harmonicollege was going to be on a cruise or at a beach resort, so maybe they should consider offering the "HARMONICRUISE" in which case sign me up.

Cheers

We could arrange a row boat on the Ohio River.

Went on my First Blues Cruise October 2013. Contrary to an earlier post we got one of the least expensive rooms available as a first timer. But the cruises do sell out quickly. One must get on the prebook deposit (fully refundable) list early then book as soon as they give you the opportunity. There's plenty of notice but if you don't book immediately it's a case of snooze and you'll lose. As a second time cruiser this coming October we got a bit better chance to book a cabin but not great compared to the many multi repeaters. Still managed a lower priced room.
Last cruise big time harp players were Rick Estrin and Kim Wilson. This fall Rick Estrin and Magic Dick.
Take note that cruising isn't our first choice. And this cruising isn't the bargain cruising is often considered to be. But having 30 terrific bands in locations on the ship ranging from poolside to piano bars and a theater make the experience remarkable and for me repeatable.
The cruise is held on a typical Holland America passenger ship carrying maybe 1,500 or more passengers fully chartered for the Blues Cruise so practically every passenger on the ship is a like minded adult with very few minors. Holland America personnel are used to an older crowd but not like this group as they like to party. One last point. This is a blues cruise not a harp blues cruise so not every band has a harp player.

I know about the Legendary Blues Cruise; I don't need to Google it. The way this event was described to me, it sounded more like something similar to a SPAH convention.

Cyara has a nicely done recap of the acts on board the latest Blues Cruise. It's organized by day, and provides separate pages of photos and videos for each of the main events.

She does a great job documenting blues acts in Central Florida, and has posted lots of nice coverage of gigs in our area. Many harp players featured. You can waste hours poking around in there. ;-)

the cruise listed runs from ~1100 - ~5000 per person depending on cabin type. it appears there are some ~2500 PP cabins left now.

As you look at the prices, on the low end, for comparison I see it this way:

$1100 per person 7 day Blues Legends cruise

compares to ordinary 7 day cruise at around $700, so $400 for 7 days of top notch blues concerts. I recently paid $38 each for tickets to see one of those acts locally, so at that price 38*7 = 266 you are almost even if you just go see the headline show each night, add in the "bar" shows and the afternoon shows, etc.

Seems fairly priced to me if your "roomate" (spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, band mate or ??) likes the blues too. This year in particular has lots of acts I would buy tickets to see in my area. In fact I have bought tickets for one of them, Tab Beniot in Kalamazoo this March.

My wife and I also like to go cruise, but she would draw the line at 7 days of blues concerts in a row( a few times a year yes, 7 days non-stop NO), so this is probably a no go for me anytime soon.

To get back to my OP; maybe my friend misunderstood, but he emphasized that the "mystery musician" told him that EVERYONE on this cruise would be a blues harp player. That is not the case with the Legendary Blues Cruise cited here, and I don't think there has ever been one that was only harp players. So, is anyone aware of a cruise like the one that I'm talking about?
