Hey guys,
Any advise on how to keep my reeds from sticking. It's driving me crazy, and they always wanna stick on a gig.

Here's a few things you can do.

1. Don't drink anything other than water when playing harmonica. The sugars in alcohol, soft drink, coffee, etc can lay on the reeds and cause them to stick.

2. Widen the gaps slightly on your reeds. If the gaps are too close then saliva can cause them to stick.

3. Don't eat food before playing and always rinse your mouth out with water after eating.

4. Regularly clean your harmonicas.

5. After playing your harps, gently tap them on your hand or leg to help remove excessive moisture.

good advice from Kingley. if the reeds are correctly gapped and aligned (parallel with the slot), then its maybe about food & drink - before a gig i use a waterpick to thoroughly clean my teeth. i drink water before/during the gig, and beer afterwards.

another reason reeds will freeze up is if you play too hard. be sure you're not blowing/drawing too forcefully.

Second on a440. The adrenaline rush and trying to make yourself heard by the guitar(s) will make you blow like a mo-fo, causing reeds sticking.
