Some of you may have read Sonny Jr's post to harp-l. If not, he is officially once again taking orders for the Avenger, Super Cruncher, and Super Sonny.

I know opinions differ but in my view, and all things considered, they are the best harmonica amps ever made and certainly the best currently made. To me they are highly functional pieces of industrial art with no equal. Build quality is of a ridiculously high level. Tone, provided you're not a hack, is of the, "OMG! The hand of the harmonica gods have reached down and touched this thing." level. They are incredibly versatile yet quite simple to dial in whatever you're looking for. Sonny includes quite detailed suggestions on input and tone settings and passes along feedback he's received from unpaid endorsers such as Sugar Ray Norcia and Mark Hummel. His customer service is second to none.

Sonny has during his time off the radar also pursued his acoustic harmonica playing in the style of Sonny Terry. The man is a fantastic harmonica player in his own right. Check out this recording of a practice session he sent me yesterday.

And finally, much to his credit Gary aka Sonny Jr, has been working on his head and found some peace. Dare I say the man has mellowed.

I have absolutely no business arrangement with Sonny Jr amps or Gary personally. I just love his amplifiers and have a tremendous amount of affection for Gary the man. He's one of life's truly extraordinary characters.

@r2d2 - Gary is putting his website back up but I don't know when that will be. I think he's working on it now. He usually answers emails very quickly - sonnytone@aol.com . Let him know you found it here. He likes to know where people hear about him. Mention Steve from Austin.

Good that he's on the mend. Along with my Bassman, the Super Cruncher is the only other amp I will not part with.

I've known Gary for many years now. He has definitely had his share of challenges and there were times when it came out in his written communication - not his strong suit. But he has always been completely straight with me, very honest and helpful. He has GREAT EARS and a very scientific approach to amp design. He isn't an engineer - he gets help with that - but he DOES spend hours and hours and hours auditioning speakers, tubes, transformers, capacitors - and he does it one at a time until he really understands the impact of every component. I think his amps are absolutely fantastic and you can have my Avenger when you pry it from my cold, dead hands......

Great news, good to see Gary back at it. I hope he adds to his website with models, options, prices, testimonials, sound bites and such. Best of luck to him.
