Ronnie Baker Brooks and his band perform "Times Have Changed" on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise # 23 on October 10, 2014.

Ronnie busts into a rap at about the 4 minute mark. What do you all think? Does this work for you?

Somewhere between rap and spoken word poetry over music. (That's an attitude distinction.)

There are times when a harp player will play pretty much just one or two notes. That's all rap is really, is the singer taking a rhythmic rather than a melodic turn. Like any form of music, it's got good examples and bad.

I kind of liked this one, but man, someone has to get control of that feedback.

I think it fits this song very well. He is not a particularly good rapper, but it is timely and relevant in this context. I do not think it is a new thing to come, however.

Chris Thomas King has been playing hip hop-blues hybrid music at least since the turn of the century...here's a fave.

Here's another blues/rap hybrid by King:

A big difference. Chris Thomas King's music is rap with blues thrown in as a secondary line of thought. RBB's song is a straight up blues 100%, then he drops in the spoken word.
