Magic Dick performs "Whammer Jammer" at the Tommy Castro Pro Jam - Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise # 23 - somewhere in the Pacific Ocean - on October 5, 2014.

Play in HD for best quality.

I know it's a jam, but he could have done w/out the horn section.

@ Iceman - weren't you one of those members who was saying that MD isn't as sharp as he used to be? I didn't see it on the two times I saw him play last week on the Cruise.

aaty....

Not exactly accurate...I merely said that his playing in that funky duo video didn't seem to be as razor sharp as what I remembered.

Funny how simple comments can morph in meaning when others filter it through their own sensibilities :}

@ Iceman -

"MD is no spring chicken. Sounds good to me...just not as sharp and on top of the beat as he was when he was younger."

Yes, I understand that you were talking about a particular song, but you were also making a general statement as to MD's abilities being diminished because of age. That is quite clear from your words.

Atty

I still think he is no spring chicken. If you interpret that as diminished ability, then I apologize for the comment.

I'd have to agree Iceman about the horn section. I'll bet about halfway through they were thinking the same thing "we should have laid out on this one fellas". I'm sure they're all great players but if you don't know the stops on that song, you're not gonna do it justice. MD still sounding great though.

I sort of agree on whether the horns should have been playing, but it was a jam, and they just felt like playing. It was spare playing at least. The crowd didn't seem to care. I think the horns are more accentuated by where I was standing with the camera and the wind screens on the camera mics which made them more pronounced.

FYI - the horns were, left to right, Ed Earley, trombone with Elvin Bishop Band, Keith Crossan on saxophone, formerly with Tommy Castro Band, Randy Oxford, trombone and bandleader with Randy Oxford Band (Seattle), and Ron Hendee, trumpet.

glad I got to associate atty1cho with a person on the cruise---had a ball---the timing on this song can be easily thrown off -by guitars or anything coming in at different times---I think md was trying to fit with what was goin on---Im glad u filmed it--sure missed musclewhite and piazza--love musclewhites laid back style on stage--his casual wave and stare at a guitar lead he likes-the wave of "don't stop now yr on a role"
thanks for the post

He sounds fantastic--the best I've heard him in years, which is to say: just like that Full House live version. Great rhythm, great tone. Beautiful stuff. Thanks for posting.
