Joe Sample (piano/keys - The Crusaders and his own recordings).
He died last night.
Spent a minute with him in Orlando about 10 years ago. His biggest pet peeve was how the conservative jazz community turned on him when he started exploring funk and jazz fusion.
One of my fav's...

A bad week for great jazz keyboardists. I saw Sample in 2009 at the now-closed San Diego jazz club Anthology; suffice to say that he was very fine, playing very near the top of his form.
