I'm talking about players who specialize in country blues styles, broadly understood, as opposed to amped-up, band-based styles. I'll suggest the first four who come to mind:

Phil Wiggins
Joe Filisko
Dave Harris
Madcat Ruth

Here are a couple of others who next come to mind

Lee Sankey
Gary D'Onofrio (Sonny Jr.)
Grant Dermody

Ketch Secor
And I think some of Howard Levy's stuff could fall under this classification...

Hawkeye, what you've listed are straight ahead country music harp players, NOT country blues, which is a totally different animal.

In many ways, I'd add John Hammond Jr. (tho he plays it on a rack) and I much prefer him by himself than in a band situation.

Never really thought of Steve Baker like this.. but the boy does well..
Saw him at SPAH knock out a grand slam w/ Mike Caldwell on the Georgia Sat's hit "Keep Your Hands To Yourself"

Mike Stevens is FANTASTIC!
That's former Professor of BLuegrass at ETSU Raymond McLain with him.

I'm with barbequebob: John Hammond Jr.'s solo stuff is bad azz!

Tom Ball as well! That guy can play up a storm.

Incidentally, I spent a lot of evenings at the Bamboo Room in Lake Worth, Floria listening to our own mooncat backing up Keith B. Brown on acoustic, country blues stuff. Fantastic.
