When I did the weeklong seminar in Klingenthal back in 2008, there was a young man named Rene Wermke who raised his hand at one point and said that he'd only been playing for a year and a half and he'd learned pretty much all he knew from my videos. Naturally I was curious to hear him! And he was very good: the 95th percentile of what you'd expect from somebody playing that long.

Six years have gone by and now he's a one-man band, and he's just sent me a couple of clips under the name "Hannover One Man Blues Band." His version of "Crossroads Blues" is solid, but I'm particularly impressed by what he's done with the Beatles' "Come Together." He's got the crowd singing along--something I've never achieved. The key thing is, he's distilled the song into the particular elements that make it work in this format. Put that together with a rock-solid beat and you've got something cool.

I happened to play with my band at that festival and heard Rene. He did a great job. It is not easy to be the "filler" between acts on the main stage. Rene got them listening and kept them entertained. It was a difficult gig for him for personal reasons, which made it even more deserving of respect! Keep it up Rene.

Hey Roger, in my interpretation of John The Revelator I heard- somebody on the main stage trying to join the song with a second harmonica... Any idea who that was ;-))
