I do, he's stuck in the typical cliche harmonica paradigm, no real articulation and he knows he can't hit a bad note in the register he is playing in. He's having a great time doing it. I don't know what I would come up with that kind of drumming. I figured out a long time ago to not just think harmonica but to imagine that I am playing a trombone, sax, trumpet and flute depending on what key the harp is in and what register I am playing in. I saw Butterfield many times and we let him rehearse his East-West album at our practice space. I wasn't much of a harmonica player back then but what I did notice about his playing was the way he articulated notes, it was very unique probably because he had played flute in his past. This really stuck with me and opened my head up with what was possible. I had been listening to LW and Sonny Boy 2 since the fifties and I knew this was different.

Have heard African harmonica playing (World Championships when they were held in Detroit in the 90's).

It's different than what this guy is doing.

Although interesting, I don't find the mesh of these two styles to be really interesting. Would prefer to hear someone brought up in this African culture adding his particular harmonica voice to the groove.

btw, this is the stuff that Ginger Baker sought out in the 70's that influenced his drumming.

He is not really feeling their beat-sounds like two different records played at the same time.

Dont get me started on Ginger Baker as I am as much a fanboy of Baker as Iceman is of Miles

Goldbrick is right. He should have waited for the drummers to get their groove going, and then joined in. He was playing his tune and they were playing theirs. Trainwreck.
