And using an SM57 and sounding just like William Clarke. Once again proving the point that it's always the Indian and never the bow. A point which so many people still seem too not want to believe even when it's right in front of them.

I certainly do not disagree
He sounds just like William Clarke

I have heard bill play without a microphone, and I have to say….

He sounded,
” Just like, William Clarke”

I got see kim Wilson twice this year
The first time he was using some sort of shure mic. You would have to ask tmf714 he would know. Definitely
A crystal mic.

The next time I saw him a few weeks later, he set his gear on my table,

He looked distressed.
I asked if something was wrong?
He said he grabbed the wrong bag.
He opened it to show me,
It had the most oddball assortment of mics, nothing you would use on a gig.

I had just unloaded all my gear at home, and I was bummed, I missed a chance to save the day,
And hear one of my heroes play thru my mic.

So we need to asks ourselves
Why was bill using a 57?
Paul butterfield Norton buffalo Jason ricci And others use the same, or similar mic to great effect. If he can get his sound with a 57,

Why on earth would bill bother using a jt 30 at all? For that matter,
Why would Kim Wilson, rod piazza?
Lester butler, Rick Estrin, Mitch Kasmar
Paul delay, gary primach, dennis grueling, tom Richmond, jerry portnoy, rj mischo
George smith The list goes on and on, go to the trouble of jt 30?

Did he leave it on the kitchen table?
Was it left in the van, on a hot summer day, after he slept in?
I’d bet there is a story that goes with it. A 57 is virtually, indestructible, if
Anything were to happen to it, it can be easily replaced, perhaps 50 or 60 dollars, used. So why bother with anything else?
I have used a, 533 and a sm 57 this last month, and while it still sounds like me
I would not consider it my sound.

I know this, if the president of the United States, asks me to play on the White house lawn, I would be bringing my best mic…. A jt 30
That is on its last legs, but still sounds great, and, “my new, blows me away custom wood bullet”, with a crystal element. “Which I have not seen or heard yet” because it is too hot to ship
Without being destroyed. I would also bring a 57 for back up
Just in case. Be prepared,
Expect the worse, Hope for the best.

The Youtube video lists the young player as Kenny Sutherland. Google gets you a bunch of results with some other videos.

This appears to be some of his recent (2010) work

The site will allow you to listen to 30 second clips of each song. Just ignore the rhapsody sign up pop ups.

so i am watching bill's performance,
when he lays down on the stage, i am not sure if
he is going to get back up.
look at the band members faces, they appear to
have genuine concern.
i get the distinct impression, bill wasn't all that sure himself.
he was playing like, if this is my last dying breath, then so be it.
i will go out, onstage blowing thru my marine band,
doing what i love, and give this audience something they will never forget.
