Some exceptional blues here from 2003. Singing, harp playing--I was exclaiming out loud when Mitch finally took his solo towards the end; not something I do often--and an amazingly soulful and nasty guitar solo from Watson midway through. Wow!

i have never seen mitch kasmar perform.
he is from southern california, and in the same league
as others from here.

rod piazza kim wilson lester butler
william clarke james harmon. tom ball.

just never got the chance, or missed the opportunity, somehow.

i would consider him a one percenter.
the top one percent of the creme de la creme.

also, is that a jt 30? i am beginning to see a pattern here.

@ Adam - Thanx for posting this .. Made my morning ! as I'm ,
10,000 miles from home :) ............. (SE Asia)

His singing, chops, syncopation , on this tune is just too cool ... classic Mitch Kashmar

@1847 - Mitch's performance's are worth the effort to attend .. if/when you get the chance .. Take it !

I'm a big fan .. was so lucky to watch Mitch coming up in the 80's & 90's and his very talented band at that time The Pontiax ! Very kind guy's & good friends .. as crappy as my playing was at that time .. Mitch would still invite me up to .. do my thing ..

Amazing to me now , but not 100% appreciated at that time .. we had Goleta Slim aka Kim Wilson , Tom Ball , Mitch all come out of one small area of So. Ca. and all around the same time ! How cool is that : )

Mastercaster,

You sound like you might remember that old blues bar in Oakview where the Pontiax were essentially the house band. That would be back when Mitch was with Marcia Clark after the OJ trial debacle. Good times.

Buzadero ,

Was that the Oakveiw Tavern ?? then there was The Wheel up the pass + the bars in S.B. as well .. Art's (first place I met Mitch), Chili Factory , Cold Springs Tavern etc etc .. : )

were you living around Ventura , Oakveiw , Ojai at that time ? If so very possible our paths crossed ..

Short story about Mitch & Marcia .. The Pontiax were playing a wedding in S.B. , she attended the affair .. they met there and the rest is or was history ...

I was. After living in NOLA from 1978 to '88, I based myself out of Big Bear until our house was leveled in the 1992 earthquake (there hasn't been a bigger one in California since). Since probably half my work had been out in the Santa Barbara Channel, we relocated to a series of houses that ran from SB down to Ventura. It was kind of a twist on house flipping. Move in, work on them in-situ, then turn them into rentals. When I started spending a lot of time internationally, I ran out of the luxury of time, so we ended up in a house just across the river from Oakview in the Foster Park area for several years. My son still lives in Ojai (when he's not galavanting around the world surfing).
That place might have been the Oakview Tavern. I just can't remember. I've always been a hopeless harp groupie. The nice thing was that my silly profession seems to be interesting enough to my harp heroes to make us interesting to each other. It always seemed like Tommy Ball was at Cold Springs, Pontiax w/ Mitch regularly showed up in Oakview, and Kim Wilson dropped in out of the blue to sit in with whomever was working at the Ban-Dar in Ventura when he came back to the Old Country. So yes, you and I quite likely have had our feet stick to the same floors.

Mitch is a good southern gentleman. A couple of years ago at HCH, he rocked with the Perry family band. Every song, he let everyone solo. He didn't trample all over everyone else's playing. He's well versed. When he played, he played with heart, to the point, and wrapped it up. We are all human, but I can't say enough about his humility.

Mitch for President!

1847 - ya that's a cool vid (mid to late 90's) and very representative of the level of Mitch's singing and playing .. he been doing that the same way since the 80's .. some folks just 'got it' and Mitch definitely is one of a kind :)

for anyone interested: The Pontiax

Jimmy Shane on guitar - wrote Harley Davidson Blues and Bullfrog Blues . played with Canned Heat - bass/guitar player) 70'-73' . .from Chicago's south side , settled in S.B. until now .. one of my fishing/riding buddies
Jack Kennedy on bass - still pickin in S.B. and abroad
Lucas - piano -
Tom Lackner on drums - local S.B. drummer and all around nice guy

ok fine.....

rumor has it mitch is playing tonight in los angeles
is that true?

so who's responsibility is it
to get the word out?

i enjoy harmonica, i live in los angeles
i have several of his albums.
i do not recall ever having heard him live.
so why is it i only hear this rumor at the last second?

perhaps it is not entirely my fault, that i have not got to see him.
the blues is a dying art.

part of the blame is on the artist, as well as the promoter.

this site is an important resource
how hard would it be to announce you're band is in town?

1847 , don't know if Mitch is a member here .. kind of doubt it ..

Certainly a shame if you missed this show , but, for sure he goes to L.A. on semi regular occasions .

that being said .. imo no 'blame' can be put on the artist .. most Pro's are musicians , busy traveling etc .. not business/agents or bar owners , who should be doing the promo ...

Aren't there several blues societies in L.A. who might do the promo of any visiting player's and/or local groups ?
How do the blues bars do their announcements ?

There's got to be some great promo to the local blues lovers as there's a large blues community in L.A. and all of So. Cal ...

Hope you catch his show next time !

once a month, i get an email from the mighty flyers.
listing all of their gigs.

i just did a search for mitch's gigs
and came up empty handed.

they say this is the information age,
i can find boatloads of useless information
with only a click of a mouse.

but i cannot for the life of me find one of your local gigs. you cannot just expect fans to just show up.
without any effort on your part.

i dont care if you are the rolling stones.

i just clicked on both sites you suggested
i do not see on either one
where his gigs are listed.

to be honest, at this point,i do not care
if i ever see him perform.

i have his recordings, i can sit at home
with a glass of wine and play along.

no need to drive anywhere or spend a boatload of money
