There are some well known stories about how Little Walter was killed and Robert Johnson gunned down...

Are there other bluesmen deaths that would be of interest of how they met their untimely demise?

Yes, this is a sad thread - but we all got to go sometime!

Lee Morgan was killed in the early hours of February 19, 1972, at Slug's Saloon, a jazz club in New York City's East Village where his band was performing.[4] Following an altercation between sets, Morgan's common-law wife Helen More (a.k.a. Morgan), shot him. The injuries were not immediately fatal, but the ambulance service was reluctant to go into the neighborhood where the club was located. They took so long to get there that Morgan bled to death. He was 33 years old.[4] Helen Morgan was arrested and spent some time in prison before being released on parole.[5] After her release, Helen Morgan returned to her native North Carolina and died there from a heart condition in March 1996.

Not strictly speaking blues, but Bad News Brown, the rapper/harmonica player (who certainly had some bluesy licks and who has come up in several threads before) was shot and killed a couple years ago. A shame for the harmonica world. He was playing a style that would get the 'cool kids' to pay attention to harp.

Frank , what is the point of this thread? To sensationalized these deaths? What is this forum, the Daily Mail? "We all got to go sometime", that's a pretty glib comment.

At least Mooncat and Nacoran pay tribute to the departed.

In the case of Sean Costello, check out the website set up in his memory to raise awareness of bipolar disorder and send some money to it. It might help someone from dying tragically like him.

I am not going to dignify Frank's response to me with any comments.
I will however point out to our esteemed monitors and our webpage guru that this type of post makes of of us look like a bunch of douche bags.

So perhaps we ought to think of a way to actually HELP rather than sensationalize. To that end, I just sold an amp on this website for $1200. I am going to sent 10% of the proceeds to Music Maker Relief Fund. I encourage others here to do the same. Honestly, none of the harp stuff we post here for sale we would be able to sell ourselves in a local music store.

This site and its participants should start thinking about the greater good and a better purpose than just improving ourselves.

PS: I just gave 150$ at Musicmaker, sorry to brag about that but maybe you should do it too.

I am a reader here, I don't know too much about the harmonica an blues so I check in here regularly because I learn stuff. The debates that often take place are usually interesting and a help me to understand more about the blues.

I used to visit another harmonica forum and stopped. It became a madhouse where a small number of posters filled the forum with post of stupidity, ego and self importance.

Frank is now doing the same damage to this forum. Thinking something does not make it worth posting. You would not pay for the space in a newspaper to have your rubbish printed so why bring it here?

And when challenged you abuse and deride. These are not original thoughts you are having Frank, they are not enlightening and they are not of much particular value.

Give it a rest, please. Don't continue to be a protagonist of angst and venom. Grow up

oh my Frank, you are just incorrigible.

"many are participating in this thread just fine."
That's really some silly rationale. There are many who think pederasty is ok and is a perfectly natural thing. Does that make it right?

How about the last post Frank: "...that awesome drug causalty Eddie Hazel.." How about Eddie hazel was an awesome funk guitarist, who's playing was on the par of Jeff Beck and is a member of the rock and roll hall of fame. Death by drugs is not awesome, ask Sean Costello's parents.

Hey Frank, you can continue to call me all the names you want but how about donating 25$ to Musicmakers everytime you do it and I will match it. That way, you can continue to call me names and be of service at the same time, what a concept!

PS @ Honkin on Bobo: I wasn't being funny or exaggerating. That is exactly where this forum is heading with Frank's recent choice of topics. I imagine the moderators have sent him a note regarding this, but maybe if enough participants here call him out on it (with in the guidelines of the forum) he will rechannel his energies towards something decent to read.

Eddie unfortunately is dead- Jeff Beck just looks dead and used to be a really good player until he discovered " fusion". Should have stuck to blues and rockabilly

Goldbrick, I'll have to disagree with you about Jeff Beck. I think he is a case of, "could not be contained by the blues".

I appreciate this thread. There's a few folks I've forgotten to remember and a couple I have not been exposed to. Their art should be remembered, and since it's not hanging on a wall somewhere, why not here?

Really Goldbrick, I believe what you just reedited. So why post it originally like it's something from TMZ?
And your glib comment about Jeff Beck, it that really that funny?
More condescending and sarcastic remarks, you guys are just hilarious.
You are pandering to a lowest denominator of humor without just calling one names. It is not very clever.

How about contributing to Musicmakers? As long as you are glorifying and making sport off dead African-Americans drug deaths, maybe you can give some money to help them at the same time. Obviously you realize what you wrote originally was stupid, so instead of being a coward and "changing the sentence structure" do something meaningful.

Why attempt to stifle a vivid imagination? On a slow news day I'll flip to the funny pages or even the obits. It's up to me to find the value. I'm not an editor so I'm not here looking for fault.

I actually learned something heartwarming. In the process of clarifying the nature of RJ's death I discovered that after 62 years, Mississippi finally closed probate (2000) and his son was declared heir of the estate. The end of a sordid tale of greed.

I also got to recall one of my rarely mentioned blues heroes, whose stage presence was exponentially proportionate to his physical size .... even during his musical 'lulls'.

It seems strange to me that something racist could be read into "awesome drug casualty". From what Wiki tells me, Eddie Hazel died of internal bleeding and liver failure at ~42 yrs old. That sounds like hard living, possibly complicated by hereditary medical conditions. A 25-30 destruction of your internal organs could be considered awesome in medical terms.

The other drug overdoses seem to be results of choices made by people who knew better, but took the risk for the thrill. I see old interviews with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Lester Butler, and I think "these people were visionaries". To inject race into the conversation is to rob them of their freedom to choose how they lived their lives.

I would accredit the, too numerous, violent deaths to a hazardous work environment. If you are constantly in the company of people who are on the tag end of a 4 hour drinking binge, i.e. closing time at any bar, you run a very high likelihood of getting stabbed or shot.

Note: It looks like there has been an edit of the race comment, so now my comment seems irrelevant. My apologies to all who are wondering, "where the Hell is this guy coming from".

The only one acting childish here and seeking approval is you Frank. Isn't that why you post about 5 new topics a day? I often wonder if this forum is the only interaction you have with other musicians, stop posting stupid shit, go to a jam and stop playing to backing tracks, and you cannot banish a member from your thread.

6SN7 has just interjected his opinion. I don't see anything wrong with that.

As for whether this is an interesting thread, it isn't, unless TMZ and Perez Hilton are your top bookmarks of your browser.

But the worst part, is you have completely lost your witty repartee. You have gone from being a headache to being a bore. Now that is far worst than a death by any means.

As with any thread - if you dont dig it dont participate- in that particular discussion.

Unless Frank is dead and doesnt know it- what does his playing have to do with this ?

Frank, please reread my posts, they are about your topic of discussion. Riddle me this, what is the importance of this topic? It is nothing less than sensationalism. If it is so important, why haven't you made a case of its importance to all of us. Instead, you tell me to shutup. All you have barked back is "let's the fine members enjoy it."

Goldbrick, you are pathetic and wrote an incredible stupid comment about the guitatrist and then changed it and then try to ply upon us your peace and love posts. bullocks. You have been caught out and start puffing about.

As for being the police, you two act like you are the purveyors of the high road, "well, if your don't like it, just ignore the topic." What only the two of you are entitled to your opinion.?

You will be happy, I am done.
