There is a ton of great advice in that video. John Lee Williamson was a huge influence on a great deal of harp players. A very wise person I've told me that if you want to be able to play like a certain artist, you had to listen to what they listened to.

Thanks for posting this Frank. I love Big Al Blake!
That was inspirational. David Barrett is a cool guy, too.

Can anyone recommend a CD with the Yank Rachell/Sonny Boy cuts Al discusses here?

MN - Try getting Mandolin Blues and there's also an album on iTunes called The Best of Yank Rachell and Sonny Boy. With those you'll have a good selection of the stuff Al talks about.

Big Al may be talking about the box sets from Britain's JSP records -- they include recordings of Yank Rachell, Big Joe Williams and others where Willamson plays accompianist.

It's eight CDs altogether. The first set, "The Original Sonny Boy Williamson," (JSP7797) covers 1937-1939. The second set, "The Later Years," (JSP77101) covers 1939-1947.

Thanks, Kingley. I went ahead and purchased that 'best of' CD. Twenty-four songs of great blues!

Searching Yank Rachell on Grooveshark yields a nice sampling of several songs in their entirety so you can try before you buy.
