I have recently begun to learn how to play the harmonica. I have watched many of Adams videos and have bought "harmonica for dummies" because it was recommended on this site.
So far I have been using a Hohner Silver Star. While this is a beginners harmonica I know an upgrade will be needed somewhere down the line.

My question is should I choose the Marine Band or the Special 20?

The Marine Band is recommended but I was wondering if a Special 20 would be better for someone without much experience as I have heard of the wooden comb swelling and a certain "leaky" quality in the Marine Band.

I would just like to know if the Special 20 would be a better choice and easier to play while I am still learning the skills for harmonica playing?

All answers appreciated :)

Special 20...plastic combs seem to be better for those starting out. Wood combs tend to swell when wet.

Either would be fine but a sp20 is easier to deal with as you'll soon be wanting to start set up your harps with gapping and maybe other stuff further down. The marine band is nailed and that makes it harder to tinker with especially after a few redo as the nails will become loose and jiggly. Welcome to the forum and good luck!

... Ps a marine band deluxe is a bit more expensive but a joy to play wether you are a beginner or advanced player...

Special 20 is a good solid harp. I played many over many years. I admit they are not my current preferred harp but they helped me get my skills together.

Pak, you may need luck, but you definitely need a stubborn determination and infinite patience to go with a form of humility, to be a good student.

I wish you success.
