In music, and life, I've found that one's education and one's ability sometimes have little to do with each other.
Since we're talking about it...
B.A. Music and Sound Recording B.A. Music Industry The programs were a mix of audio engineering, theory, performance and general business courses and courses specific to the music business.
unrelated to music I have an M.A.T., concentration in Social Studies.

I studied classical music and acoustic science in college. Private studies in jazz w/one of the most advanced pianists in Detroit - a guy named Howard Lucas.
Was a band leader and musical arranger during the 80's.
Combination of classroom learning and lotsa real life experience. ---------- The Iceman

Most educated doesn't always translate to excellent player, though.
Book smart and street stupid comes to mind...

Being street smart is over rated as well.
AA degree in literature, BA in literature, 1 year of graduate school. Literature was an ideal major as it was a superb entry into other disciplines that deal with issues which novels, poems and theatre deal with metaphorically; art and art history, film studies, philosophy, history, sociology. I read the way I listened to music, long and deep into the disciplines that interested me. I don't have graduate degrees nor academic appointments on my resume, but more often than not I am the best read person in the room. That makes me a bit of an autodidact.
That being said, being well read doesn't make one, by default, brilliant, or even smart. At worst , it only means that you know the answer to any question put to you ,but you don't haven't an inkling how to make creative use from the facts a library card availed to you.
That is to say that book smart is not necessarily a virtue.

Lyrics added to spoof the spam doctor :)
Hey well, I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan Won't you hop inside my car I got pictures, got candy, I'm a lovable man And I can take you to the nearest star
I'm your vehicle, baby I'll take you anywhere you wanna go I'm your vehicle, woman But now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (Love ya) I need ya (Need ya) I want ya Got to have you child Great God in Heaven you know I love you
Well, if you wants to be a movie star I'll get a ticket to a Hollywood But if you wanna stay just luck you are You know I think you really should
I'm your vehicle, baby I'll take you anywhere you wanna go I'm your vehicle, woman But now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (Love ya) I need ya (Need ya) I want ya Got to have you child Great God in Heaven you know I love you Oh, you know I do
Well, I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan Won't you hop inside my car I got pictures, candy, I'm a lovable man And I can take you to the nearest star
I'm your vehicle, baby I'll take you anywhere you wanna go I'm your vehicle, woman But now I'm sure you know
That I love ya (Love ya) I need ya (Need ya) I want ya I got to have ya Great God in Heaven you know I love you
And I'm your vehicle, babe You know, I love ya, I need ya, I want ya Got to have you child Great God in Heaven you know I love you.
